    I am officially obesessed.

We have 200 acres about an hour and a half from where we live now (which is the north 'burbs of Houston). We plan to move there a build a home but we can't yet because dh owns a thriving business here and relocating is not an option. We also have an rv and boat storage we are trying desperatley to get open soon. That we can run from anywhere.

So yesterday I was driving home from taking the kids to lunch and the bookstore when I got a wild hair. There is an rv resort close by and I have always just wanted to see where it was. So off I went on my detour.

I was so shocked when I drove into the neighborhood! There are older homes on small acreage, no deed restrictions and I saw horses! I had no idea that kind of neighborhood was right there within a couple of miles from me. So the girls and I drove around and checked it out while looking for homes for sale.

I had a lightbulb moment. We want more yard, room for a garden and space to raise some animals with no deed restrictions - so instead of longing for and waiting for everything to fall into place to be able to move to our land why not look right around here!?!? I would be totally willing to move into an older, smaller home that needs a bit of cosmetic work if it were on a couple of acres with no deed restrictions or HOA dues.

When I brought this up to dh yesterday he wasn't really all that thrilled and kind of sceptical. That is until I made him get in the car and drove him around a bit and he saw what we could have compared to where we live. Now he is pumped up too. He said if I can find something that we want where we would be paying the same thing we are now then it's a go.

So the search is on and I've already found one property I want to look at. I really hate living where we live. The houses are 5 feet apart, right on top of each other, the HOA has stupid rules (whole other story there), punk trouble makers walk the streets and there is no room or privacy here at all. So cross your fingers for us!

You should be in a good market for buying! Interest rates should be good, too. I hope you can find the perfect place for your family.

Oh my gosh, I am excited for you. I really hope this falls into place for you. How exciting! Subdivision life has never been my idea of living. I know it is for some, but give me my property, my privacy, and no rules, and I am a happy camper.

I truly will be hoping that something works out. Happy hunting.

Tiffany, that is so cool, you get the land and acres and the horses and the girls and I will be there for sure. We will even help you move, just tell me when and where. I'm so excited for you all.

Sounds like you found a perfect place! I sure hope things work out for you.

Now, what of your land? If you buy this house will you sell that or still plan on building someday?

Well I found two places I want to look at and I have emailed the agent to set up a time to view the properties. Now I just have to wait to hear from them.

I will never sell our 200 acres. If I buy something else now I will still eventually at some point build on my property. It has been in my family for well over 100 years so I will never, ever sell it. We have a long time family friend that leases the land for cattle grazing and hay and he also does minor repair on the barns when needed.

Basically right now we just want a couple of unrestricted acres in our general area. One I found that I just love from the photos is a bit north from here and is on a private lake. It is the same square foot as what we live in now only it's an older home but it is on the water and has a pier. I talked to a different agent this morning that said that neighborhood is mostly people who just have weekend homes and it is very quiet.

Thanks! If God wants us to move he will open the doors. If he wants us to stay here then I will deal with it. I sure hopes he wants us to move! LOL!

I can totally relate. We got to loath being only 15 feet from our neighbors homes and having park across the street. Public space became a negative as anyone can hang out there, including gangs of teenagers, prostitutes, and drug dealers.

We recently sold our house in fla. We are now in NW NC and are having a house built on 4.5 acres. It is deed restricted ,but not too restricted. We can have animals etc, just not abandoned mobiles and junk cars etc.

Its a tough market, but if you want to do this, just keep working on making your place as ready as you can for sale. We did not spend much, but our house got to very near new condition after we worked and worked and was move in ready. It showed well and once a realtor came they would usually bring others by as well. It still took a long time to sell, but that is todays market.

Paint, paint, caulk, and paint I can still smell it, dream it, etc It seems that months later there is still alot of white paint in my hair. LOL

Vantage we are now in the process of doing some work to the house we live in. We were going to do it anyway but now at least we have a goal to reach. By June we will have the exterior painted, some of the interior that needs it, a portion of the roof fixed and a new wood floor in the kitchen, entry and office (which is actually supposed to be the formal dinning room). We got new tile in both bathrooms and carpet in the rest of the house last year. At least it will be nice for us to live in for a while.

Kris - girl when I move to my 200 acres there is plenty of room for a landing strip. You gas up that jet and pick up all our friends from the Spot and I'll make sure everyone has a place to stay and fresh garden veggies to eat!
