Working on next year. So far I'm positive for math - Teaching Textbooks PreAlgebra science - Apologia Physical Science Vocabulary - Worldly Wise Could use suggestions for everything else. Considering World Trail Guide World Geography but not sure whether to do that and history (which I have no clue what to do for that) Really need to come up with something for literture. I think he would do better with a textbook type literture rather than reading entire books for the whole thing. Writing - we've got to get with the program for that too. I know I'm leaving something out but not sure what. Any ideas? TIA Ann
We're using All American History. It's fairly good. There are two volumes now, so you could see which you prefer. My dd is in 6th grade, and my ds is in 9th grade and they're both doing the same history. DS does many more projects and papers than dd does, and it's working out fine. Next year ds will probably be doing Notgrass History, which is highschool level. I haven't decided whether to do World or American. My dd will be doing the Volume 2, along with the Trail Guide to US Geography. I also have the Trail Guide to World Geography that she'll do later. For English/Grammar, I suggest Rod & Staff. It's a very thorough program! But if he isn't very strong in English, I'd get at least one grade below his grade level, because they're rather advanced. I'll have to think about the others. I can't recall stuff off the top of my head right now, but I'm sure others will have great suggestions. To go with what Kris said---They often have study guides for literature books available on-line! You could do a few of those! Also, the Trail Guide to World Geography has "Around the World in 80 Days" as a source to read and do Geography with. It could also count as literature, and I'm sure you could find a guide to go with it!
World history or American? I absolutely love Mystery of History. It's Christian based, and vol. 1 covers Ancient History (from Creation to the Ressurection). It covers Biblical history, as well as Egypt, Greece, Persia, Babylon, Assyria. You'll get a little of India and China, too. Vol. 2 covers the Church Age and the Middle Ages. Vol. 3 (due out VERY soon!) is the Renaissance.
I've never even read Gone With the Wind myself and I read practically everything I can. Not to mention he's dyslexic and it's a battle to get him to read as it is. Ann

Ditto Jackie, that is what I was going to say, they have alot of books on tape he could listen too and get the same out of it.
As far as book lists go I good on that (too bad he isn't LOL). Mainly I'm just trying to get an idea of what I might be missing. One reason I was thinking of going with a literature textbook instead of entire books was the thought that he might do better with the format (not that I'm not gonna have him read entire books.) Ann
