Is there others for this group??? I am totally addicted to collecting curricula for my children. I find what I want and get it. Then, someone suggests something is really good and I'll get that too. I just can't stop. I really like to have it all because I can pick and choose what I want to use. I also feel like if I just go with one company that they miss out on something. Help, I have a sickness. I am spending way too much money on this stuff, hee, hee!
Don't worry... classroom teachers do it, too! We recently had a thread about spending money on our classrooms. We can't stop.
TOO TOO FUNNY! I was just going to post about the same thing! I think its the time of the year! You should see what I've got coming next week! I told dh that I am opening up a bookstore I tell you what complicates it more is having children that span several grades. You really can't get rid of anything until the next one comes along. So I have 6 shelves with one shelf for each curriculum from PreK-5th and STILL growing! But remember.......take a deep breath and repeat after me *Buying this curriculum and finding something we like is way better than paying literally thousands of dollars at a private school* lol On top of all that, the new Well Trained Mind came out and OF COURSE I have to have everything they suggest as well....lol You would think i was educating 30 kids instead of 3 lol lol
Me too, I love buying things for ebay, going to sales, bookstores, yard sales and getting a variety of things. I feel more educated and well-rounded even if I don't use it all. It makes us wiser on what is out there and how do you know if something does or dosn't work till you try ???? Me too, I thought I was the only one.
I wish I had just one dollar for every book I ever bought. We didn't have a computer when I first started working with my daughter, so like everyone else, I bought what looked good or I thought I needed. I have started a system where if I don't touch it for 6 months, it's outta here.
Well I'm addicted to web sites- I mean you never know when something really good is going to turn up! lol so I keep saving them into folders off folders off folders! I'm also addicted to garage sales, markets, and anywhere second hand books are sold. The only trouble with real paper is where to put it all! I just saw this better Homes and gardens show where they made part of a wall in an open plan house into a two way bookcase, did my eyes ever light up! lol because we also have a perfect wall for that! My husband just groaned. Jo
Yep Yep Yep and then...you go wow how to I use all this great stuff together? I'm looking at buying some more workbooks (head shaking) It's just sooo fun!!! For me I'm also trying to figure out where ds is on his academic *scale*. He learns very easily - I sure hope I don't have to *pay the piper* with ds#2. Books are our friends and all books should have a home. Hey at least we aren't bringing home lot's of stray animals that need feeding and water, eh?
Ok... for the website addict... check out my page I did for my school... lots of theme links... lots of resources... http://bcmnc.blount.k12.al.us/links.htm for the curriculum addict... I don't know what grade level you have, but here is a GREAT preschool curriculum. I printed huge notebook full when I first got my preschool special ed class. I had nothing to go by and this was WONDERFUL!!!! http://www.preschoolbystormie.com Well, here is the curriculum index... http://www.preschoolbystormie.com/curriculumindex.htm I know of another site that has religious themes for church related homeschool programs, but I can't find it right now. When I do, I'll post it on here. Lori
Hee, hee! I was a classroom teacher for 6 years so I guess that is where this all started. I did it back then too. I am still going through teacher books, files and manipulatives that I've saved from when I taught kindergarten. Glad there are others out there like me!!!
Thanks Lori for the links! I think I've already printed Stormie's preschool curriculum but I haven't checked to make sure. That is such a nice reference. Also, I didn't realize you could click on things to give you lessons. Thanks again!!!
Is there a site for ppl addicted to BOTH homeless books and animals? I think I have a co-morbid condition.....
Gosh, speaking of books. Thrift stores are my thing for children's books. Talk about dirt cheap. I found disney books & tapes... 12 in the case for $13. Great deals there! Lori
Oh Brooke...if my hubby weren't so...not into animals we'd have a house full, I'm sure. In the last year we have gotten a Beta fish, a guinea pig and 3 hermit crabs. LOL Ds wants a hamster and all the cool toys that go with them. I don't think so, son! It's all fun, eh?
Books!! Talk about thrift stores! Goodwill is another great place for books. Classics are available for $0.25. I pick them up as I go along...hoping that one day my son and daughter will pick them up and read them! Chrys
Oh I know about those 25cent books. Little Golden Books are pretty cheap and some can be found in great condition. I've seen some old ones in there and also see some at antique stores. People are trying to make a fortune on LGB in the antique stores wanting $10 a book or more. HA! I'll just wait and luck up on them at Goodwill or other thrift stores. If I could sell my LGB collection, I'd be sorta rich... LOL if I sold them at antique store prices. Lori
Count me in, too! I go crazy hunting and gathering more curricula, discount books and online info! Just can't get enough Colleen
