So we've gone through all the "normal" names for the hurricane season and we've gone through Alpha...now we're into Beta! This is insane! I wouldn't want to see Omega!!! http://www.weatherunderground.com/tropical/tracking/at200526.html
Hey, Jackie....'twasn't me, my dear . I've been confused before with the "Br" at the beginning, too . However, I'll take your suggestion into account when we get to Alpha Alpha and Beta Beta ?????
My ex is in Florida and I worry every time these storms come through. I can't imagine the fear those people along those regions must feel.
Yeah, I remember when it was a reason for concern to live in CA because of the earthquakes. Hopefully the hurricane fear will someday subside like the earthquake fear did....although there seems to be some truth to the concern at times.
It is scary isn't it? all these huge storms lately. Brenda, by the time they get your way how big are they? Tracy
By the time they get to us, we see rain (and lots of it) and sometimes some wind. I will say I am quite surprised at how fast the storms seem to head towards us when they are forecasted to (Katrina was here within a day and a half I think - Rita within the same period of time). Before that I really don't know because I honestly didn't pay a lot of attention to the storms before Katrina - figured I wasn't in the direct path so why worry about it right :-( When Wilma and Alpha made it to our area, those who live along the coast of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia were expecting a lot worse than what they actually got... we live inland far enough that we don't usually get too much. I wouldn't want to be dessimated (?sp) by Omega! Oh my - wouldn't that be awful...
Obviously you were never a Sorority member in college!!! (Neither was I!!!) Copying from my "English from the Roots Up" book..... alpha, beta, gamma, delta, epsilon, zeta, eta, theta, iota, kappa, lambda, mu, nu, xi, omicron, pi, rho, sigma, tau, upsilon, phi, chi, psi, omega Many of these I would recognize as Greek letters from college friends who were in one sorority/fraternity or from other places. For example, chi-rho has meaning in some Christian circles. But others (omicron) I never heard of before, and I would NEVER have been able to recite them proper!!!
Now that I see some of them... they look familiar (well they sound familiar - from television shows). I wasn't into the sorority things either - not my cup of tea...
