The same thing happened to us last fall too. Our cat was eaten 2 weeks ago by the fox family we have a hundred feet or so from our backyard. I guess were done with cats for now, I dont want them to be fox food anymore.
I just spent 250.00 last month getting our male and female cats spayed and neutered along with their shots and what not. This stuff seems to always happen after we spend a lot of money on one of our pets.
    Stupid foxes.

We have a problem with the coyotes eating our cats and chickens. Our cats have been outdoor cats since we do not like them in the house because of Handsome's asthma. Our last cat was hit by a car. We decided, no more cats. Now that we have a young dog, the coyotes are hesitant to jump the fence. When my older dog was back there, they were not worried about him. He wasn't fast enough and they knew it.:|

Wow. I am sorry to hear that. I live in the city so the most animal excitement we ever got was the raccoon on our roof. Well, not that your cat getting eaten is exciting...sorry...I really dont' mean that. I just mean I am not used to living somewhere with foxes or coyotes..things of that nature.

We live in a city; a spread out city. Before it became a city, many people had large yards from 1 acre on up. So the coyotes have made their homes in yards as well as allies behind houses, under the Junipers. I have one of the only open fields, on my street, behind my house and on the side. Once the apartments and daycare center are finished, hopefully coyotes will not be a problem anymore. But we still have a few bears and mountain lions around here so perhaps the coyotes will not go away after all.

I'm ok about it, its sad but I'm not distraught. The kids are pretty upset... especially my 2 yr old Eli. He lived with that cat day and night. Poor little guy is still calling for her.
I'm surprised the foxes went after the cat. There are a ton of prarie dogs around here to eat. I guess Fluffy was easier to catch.

We have coyotes, bears and mountain lions around us. They've been spotted in our neighborhood---especially the coyotes (who have caught many of our neighbors cats!). Oh we've seen deer and raccoon as well, but not much anymore.

I love our neighborhood! It's close to town really, but far enough away that we can have these animals around!

Oh that is so sad, maybe get a cat and don't let it outside. We have them here. But, don't let our small animals out alone.

    awww, poor kitty. :(

I'm sorry that happened. I know the foxes were probably doing 'what comes naturally' to them, but pets are family...

We've got five of them here but they're strictly indoor cats - the only 'outside' time they get is on the way to the car for a vet trip. ;)

    **********

The biggest wildlife we have on the island here are some coyotes - I've never seen one, but apparently there's a some kicking around, I've heard. Not in town though.

Sad thing is, is that she was an indoor cat. I bet one of the kids let her outside. She was really wanting to go outside for the last month or so. Our other cat (named "semi-wild kitty" lol) is a wild cat we adopted and you cant hardly catch him at all. Hopefully he's quick enough to escape the foxes.
Eli hasnt ased about fluffy at all today, hopefully he's getting over Fluffy.
I told the kids we'd maybe get a chameleon this summer if they work hard at their school work and chores. They've wanted one since last summer but since we had a cat we couldnt have a chameleon. They also have to read up on the care of a chameleon and write out what they've learned. The 5 yr old can just tell me what he's learned but the 7 yr old is a reluctant writer so I hope his desire for a chameleon will get him writing lol.

There's been a lot of building in surrounding areas since we moved here, and we just don't see the deer and raccoon anymore! :( I miss them!

    I am so sorry!

Our neighbors' cats come to our house to score some treats every day that we also give to our little princess. Anyway, I hadn't seen the neighbors' black cat for awhile and asked where she was. To my horror, she told me that her cat died.

Her cat was in heat and she asked if we saw her to get her and call so she could come and pick her up. So her cat came over to our house for a treat after being gone for about four days. We brought her in and put her in a carrier. I didn't notice but she had an injury which my neighbor doctored for about a week. She said it appeared to be a bite from another animal. The vet said she died from the infection. I was horrified when she told me because we've grown close to her kitties. She has another cat that comes over here when we are outside or he will come and sit at the front door looking up at the window waiting for his treat. Quite the little begger!
