I have a question. I saw the proposed law for MIchigan and am wondering how long they have to pass or vote down the bill regarding reporting to the superintendent.
    Thanks in advance.

Don't know anything about this. I live about 10 minutes from MI. I am sorry to hear this will become a new law...if it does. Not that reporting to the superintendent is a big deal..we do that in Ohio. However, it is always sad to see more rules being placed on homeschooling...IMO. lol.

    Thanks Ava.
What do you have to do exactly when you report to the Superintendent? Just tell them of your intent to HS at the beginning of the year?

I went and read what HSLDA has to say on the matter. They are requesting that people call their legislators. I suggest you go to HSLDA and read there. It appears that people are thinking this may get bogged down in committee and then may or may not be reintroduced next year. Either way, it is always good to step up and call or write the people making these decisions.

Here in California, I was recently reminded how important it is to be involved in this process. Calling a rep. only takes a few minutes.

While notifying the superintendent may not be a big deal, I am totally on the side of NOT wanting more requirements for homeschoolers - if its not broken why fix it?!

As far as when it would take affect if it passed, the law would state the date it would start. More than likely this coming school year if it passed today.

Go to the INCH website. I think that it is www.inch.com -- not sure, but they have all the information and will also tell you what action you need to take. Such as all the legislators phone numbers and email addresses.
