I can't see what's on the rose bushes, but I love the doll! Rachael made one out of a sock, using a pattern from a library book when she was 8. It was a shower gift for her Aunt Lisa. That little sock doll was the HIT of the shower! Carl's aunt gave her ten dollars to make another one!!!

I thought about snipping one to take to someone but don't know where I would take it. Back home I would but not here. I think we may just go and nip them and see what happens to the rosebush.

I can't see the picture very well, but it looks to me like an insect gall. That is if it is like part of the stem itself.

Take a look online at some pictures of insect galls and see if that looks right to you. They do have a hole on them where it looks like something went in or out.

Here is a link with some great pics....scan down about three pics to the ones I'm used to seeing...

    Hope that helps!

    You're welcome.

When my son was in PS his 1st grade teacher claimed to be a bug expert. When we were taking one of our afternoon walks he came upon the galls and wondered what they were. He took one to his 'expert' teacher and she didn't know what it was. She just said it was a malformed plant.

He came home and told me that and I did some investigating on my own. When I came up with that page above, I printed it out along with the wiki definition and sent it back. She thanked me and apologized for not knowing. What an 'insect expert.'
