I was looking at the pic of the hs classrooms in another thread, and it is making me sweat!

I was planning to use our kitchen table, or whever we end up for reading etc. We have a white board which will fit in the corner, and a book shelf.

    Gosh, do I really need a room?

No, you can successfully home school without having a special room for it. We use the kitchen table, the living room floor or the backyard even.
The only thing that matters (in my opinion) is that everyone is comfortable.

We just had a classroom because our kids wanted one.

No you don't have to have a room. I currently took over half of our living room for book shelves, his desk (used when he wants), and mainly for storage. We use our kitchen table a lot of the time.

We are going to use the kitchen table as well. I was worried until I heard about those mighty women who school in RV's. If they can do it, I can do it.

I thought we needed a school room when I first started homeschooling. I even went out and bought a zillion posters to hang up.. a number chart, the alphabet etc etc. Then I realized my kids dont even look at them, so I'm in the process of taking them all down.
We school where ever it's the quietest that day. Our books pretty much stay out on our dining room table 24/7. I figure everyone knows I'm a homeschool mom so the clutter of books is to be expected.

My house has 5 rooms. There's no way I can have a homeschool room. I did set up a desk when we went more formal but now it just holds clutter. It's either the kitchen table or a bed or the couch.

Nope, certainly don't need a room!

When the boys were little, we set aside a corner of our living room and put up handwriting and number posters, and had two desks some friends gave us, with a Little Tykes table in between for our even littler dd (she hated to miss out on anything!). They kept their books in their desks, and we also had a little shelf for reading and teacher books.

Well, that was long ago. Now the oldest is almost 17, the younger boy is 14 and our dd just turned 11! Time flies! In all that time, we've NEVER had a school room. We just school wherever is most comfortable, and make good use of our white board as well!

Well, the others have already said it, but I agree that we don't need a room.

That said, I'd like one...one where I could have things hanging up and close a door behind them when we're done. But I don't have room for it.

DH just built me a built-in bookcase in the dining room, and that is where all our school stuff stays. We have a bench seat built into it. Over the seat hangs our bulletin board and calendar. Under it is a cubby for each kids' books. I need to find baskets for the cubbies, but haven't found any I like yet.

We end up doing the actual work all over the place: living room, bedrooms, outside. But the largest amount of work takes place around the dining room table.

    I agree with everyone here.
You do not need a room for schooling.

Think of it this way; Some people have lavish laundry rooms with large folding tables and the latest appliances and even a tv hooked up to cable in there.

Do you need a room like that to do laundry?
    Of course not.

So, you do whatever works for YOUR family. Experiment with different things, and you may find that not one thing works for you, but that many different set ups work for you!

    Have fun!

No HS room here...although we could have one but we opted for the toyroom/playroom instead. We do have the dry erase board in that room and I plan to get more cork board to hang posters, artwork, etc.

At our other house, we had the dining rm as the hs room with all the bookshelves, dry erase board, etc in there.....

Sometimes it would be nice to have a room but we do better with the kids sort of spread out with their studies. While one uses the kitchen/dining table, the other reads on the couch, while I work with the youngest in another room. Divide and conquer :)

I no longer have a classroom. Had to be used as a bedroom. Now, I just store all my supplies in one area dedicated to all homeschool and art stuff and then we use the dining room table. It was wonderful to have a full room! WONDERFUL! But if you can't, you can't.

NO! you do not need a room, if you can get a spot on the wall to put up lesson work or art work, that would be handy, but you only need a spot to sit and teach and for kids to work. WHite boards are awesome , I have individual ones for my kids now so I can go from kid to kid and nto have to erase them.

Phew! I am glad to know. The pics of the ones that are set up are just gorgeous and look great! I just didn't think I could do that in my house.

Just so you know, just because we do have a room - we school all over the house and outside when weather permits!

The room is really just a room for the kids because we had the space. If we didn't, we would do it where ever there is room!

Homeschooling is awesome no matter where you do it! :D

If I had a room to "do school" I think I'd lose my mind.

We utilize the kitchen table, her desk, the couch, floor and backyard deck and in front of the fireplace in winter.

    Learning can take place anywhere.

That's how we work, too. We have two computers in what would normally be a formal dining room off the kitchen area, and two good size bookcases right inside our living room. But the "learning" takes place either on the couch in the living room as I'm reading aloud, or at the kitchen table. Now that it's nice, Faythe likes to do her math, etc. outside in a hammock they made out of an old sheet.

Jackie, Faythe does her math in a hammock? Thats a great idea. It's just the thing Noah would love. I'm going to look into getting him something like that or a swing set for outside. We had to leave the kids play set at our old house, so now the kids dont have a swing set here. :( It's now getting nice enough outside for my kids to enjoy being outside during the day.
I think we'll do school outside tomorrow YAY!
