We're considering a major move in order that both hubby and I could have decent jobs... Not sure when but we'll be praying about it. This move would be clear acrosss the country away from both families (not that we see them much now) and will mean some adjustments for the boys... Please pray with us.
We'll pray for you all here, Brenda! How 'bout you join us in the U.S.A. in Washington State?! It's a great place, love to have ya!!!
I would go in a heart beat... if the US didn't look at me as an alien  We had looked into it a couple years back, but there was such a fiasco in getting my license for nursing transferred and then the red tape we were quickly turned off...
I used to work with a kid from Poland, and he said all the assistance they recieved to smooth their move was hogwash. He said information was wrong, others was useless. They were actually told they could buy a new car for like 900.00! I wish. You wouldn't be in need of that kind of help, but his situation backs up what you say about red tape and all that stuff. And if you'd consider Washington state, you might as well come to Maryland. I'll spring for a bushel of crabs and you can help me work on my disposition!! LOLOL!!
Oh Golly! That could be fun  The red tape I spoke of would be (for example) a hospital who wanted to hire me would have to go through all this paper work to show that they looked locally for the required job and couldn't hire anyone and then prove that I was who they needed. One of the options we have looked into allows a sign on bonus for a new hire and relocation assistance... but there is so much more to consider... The boys being the biggest thing - Andrew does not adjust well to change so this would be a huge thing for him. We spoke to them about it at supper time and Andrew was apprehensive about the idea of a move, but we also told them that we haven't made any decisions about it yet.
Not really because it's clear across the other side of the country (in a whole other time zone no less)... the best we could do is a cyber space tour...
Brenda, prayers for your decision. If you are seriously considering an area, contact the local chamber of commerce for the area. They can send you a packet of info (tell them you are bringing children in your move)- usually there are brochures of sports offered; schools; maps of the city with parks, etc; arts and science; museums; etc. We learned a lot about an area we were thinking of moving to- and were able to show the boys visually some of the positives. Just a suggestion... momx3
Brenda~ Wow~ I didn't know you were considering this~ guess it's been awhile since we've chatted! LOL I like momandteacherx3's idea about contacting the Chamber of Commerce (that's what they're called here in the states- maybe it's something different in Canada). Anyway, they usually do send out a nice packet of stuff- and the boys would probably enjoy looking through it. When we're out travelling, we always pick up information for various locations and both girls love looking at brochures, etc. It just hit me that that's also a great learning/reading experience! With all the troubles that you boys have had at school with various things, maybe it would help them for you to explain that they'd be getting a "fresh start" at this new place. They could walk into a new school, where nobody knows them or has them "marked" already. I think that would be exciting! (Scary too, of course, but don't mention that part! LOL) Anyway, my thoughts and prayers are with you, Heidi
Yeah, I know what you mean about red tape. Sad to say it's a big hassle! Our pastor and his wife are from Canada, but have been in the US quite a long time (we're talking years here). She STILL doesn't have her green card, so hasn't been able to work. What a PAIN! Rats though, it'd be fun to have you live nearby!
I know there is nothing enticing about Iowa--except me!!! The last I heard there was a nurse shortage in the US and that some states (I think it was FL) was having to hire foreign nurses. We allow all sorts of foreign doctors, I don't know why a nurse would have trouble getting licensed. If you come here Andrew can have an instant friend!!! Ds has formed an attachment to him just cuz of the TS. Not too often he feels like someone is "just like him", kwim? Did I mention how cheap everything is here in the midwest??? The air is cleaner. We live a few blocks from the Mississippi River. There are tons of nursing jobs available. Iowa has good schools (if that's an issue). Uh...can you tell I want you here BADLY???!!!
I don't know what kind of work your Mr. Wonderful does but you might concider Dallas FortWorth area. There are several major hospitals. The suburbs are descent. If you enjoy the great outdoors and lots of greenery, The Tyler area is nice.Texas is the only state in the union to be it's own country. We have beaches and The hill country, the piney woods. We have a lot of nice areas out here.
Wow a move. Hey Brenda is it cold there yet? Its 86 here today. Suppose to be near 90 tomorrow. You can move to MS. We are not getting any hurricanes right now.  I wish I could just visit Canada. I hear it is soooooo pretty. Where are you moving to? The name of the Town I mean. I have always wanted to go to Yellowknife. Ever been there? Is it pretty?
Yellowknife is a city in Northern Canada - the capital of the Northwest Territories Vicky... it's 36 here (Brrrrrrrrrrr) and that's not the lowest it will be tonight
I have heard that it is so pretty. I would like to visit there, when its warmer. Brenda, I am not sounding ugly at you, but I HATE Snow and Cold weather. I like it around 75 to 85 all year long. Right now we are getting some cooler weather its about 70 here . Its going to get into the 40's tonight burrrrrr .
