Hi all, I'm new here from......TEXAS, yee-haw!! I have 2 boys, 12 and 15. This has been the worst school year ever! I've been at battle for 4 years with the ps here over a major bullying issue with my oldest, I could NOT take anymore (neither could my oldest) and we transferrred to another school about 30 miles away. *sigh* Something keeps pulling me to homeschool. I've done ALOT of reading on the subject, weighed my pros and cons, and it's something I feel like I need to do. Both of my children are labeled as Learning Disabled.....not sure about that, but it keeps the special ed teacher in a job!!Anyway, I've prayed and prayed about it, and asked the Lord to "send me a sign", or something to show me the path he wants me to take. The very next day my oldest son got off the bus, and said "well, I guess I won't be in school there next year" I asked what happened, and he said that the principal told him that because he had holes in his jeans, that he would NOT be a transfer student there next year!!. Ok, I'm thinking......that's it! That's my sign!! My youngest has begged me to homeschool, and my oldest has asked a few times about it. I actually work for the school system.....LOL and I see all the inside BS that goes on behind closed doors. I'm so scared to start on this journey. My oldest will be in 9th grade and the youngest in 6th grade. I don't even know where to begin.!! I'm looking forward to meeting some other moms.
Welcome! I'm Jackie, homeschooling in central Ohio. My girls are 11 and 13 (almost 12 and 14!) and my son is 8. My oldest will be starting 9th grade, too. There's lots of threads on here dealing with curriculum for high school. Seems several of us have kind of "made the jump" over the past year or two to "upper" classes! So if you do a search, you'll find lots of discussion on curriculum, especially on math and history.
Welcome! I have been hsing my kids since kindergarten, so that is 13 years now. My boys are graduating high school from Abeka Academy this month. We have used Abeka and Abeka Academy for high school. We used the academy for high school to give my kids more of a mix and some of the math they have taken is over my head as it has been years since I was in high school. Calculus? www.abeka.com I like the structure that Abeka offers without it, I would be a mess. Just jump right in and ask all the questions you wish. One of us will have the answer. Enjoy!
HI! Welcome to the insanity! It's really not that bad! You'll BE AWESOME!!! Find some homeschoolers in your area now and find a way to get connected, even over the summer! That way you'll have support of veterans around you to help you make those first hard decisions! Stay on here too!
Welcome!!! I am Tiffany and I too am from Texas, just north of Houston. Friday we will wrap up our second year of homeschooling. I have two girls who will be in 7th grade and kidergarten when we begin year 3. We homeschool using the Charlotte Mason method. Jump right in and ask all the questions you want. We're a friendly bunch!
It sounds like you have been gettnig signs for a while - bullying, youngest begging, oldest asking, now jeans with holes. You have obviously tried very hard to make ps work too. It sounds like you have given it your best shot and now it is time to take anotehr path. This is exciting! This is scary! This will change your family in so many good ways. Hook up with a local homeschool group if possible and start asking questions. I think your kids will thank you for making this choice. Cheryl dd-14(school of the arts) homeschooling ds-12 and ds-11
Welcome! Sounds like you're off to a good start....read, read, read......that's what I did before we began. I also ordered lots of catalogs and talked to other HS mom's. Glad you found the HS Spot. Ask away...most of us are not bashful about giving our opinions:lol: Rhonda
Welcome to the Spot, and to the wonderful world of homeschooling! I'm in TX as well (there are several of us here); I'm in Austin. My boys are 9, almost 5 (this month), and 3 and we've been hsing for two years now. I totally agree! Welcome again, and as others have said - don't hesitate to ask as you have questions along the way. Someone here will usually have an answer! (Or, at least, an opinion! )
