Alright. Thought I'd update you all to let you know that I've decided to go with the free classical life science elementary curriculum I posted a few days ago as our science choice. (Because I *know* you all really care. LOL) I'll likely supplement with library books, and absolutely with the notebooking pages from the CGC workbook. It's set up to be studied 3 days per week, but I'll move it down to 2 days per week and on the second day we'll either do BOTH of the activities planned or we'll pick whichever is more practical or doable that day. (I noticed that sometimes the activities are a crossword or something, and sometimes the experiments are REALLY simple. On those days, we'll likely do both of whatever the two activities are.) I also plan to include, during the summer while we aren't having co-op, a health curriculum. I have a textbook (two, actually) and plan to use those. I think that will go over just fine with ds9. Anyway. Just thought I'd update.
Congratulations for your decision. I know that it feels good when you finally decide on something. I know it made me feel worlds better.
Thanks! I was stressing over it there for a bit. God provides, though! The day after my little meltdown post here, someone posted that freebie on another site. It was a couple of days before I got to go through it, but... it will work wonderfully for us. If I find CKE Biology for a really, really good price, I'd probably not turn it down. But, free is free! And we'll likely look for CKE in the future.
Hey DaLynn! I'm going to use CGC as my base and supplement with the freebie you posted! (a friend is lending me both her books...so free is the choice this year!) I posted the link to my homeschool coop and they all loved it! I love how (so far in what I've read) it really stays out of the "evolution/creation" debate and just teaches stuff....how refreshing! I mean, maybe i missed something...but I think it's that way all the way thru! Again, thanks for posting that link. Science is FREE except for ink and paper purchases this year (oh....and experiment stuff).
LOL Krista! Well, if you draw up some kind of plan... Thanks, ladies! Stress is done. I think we're going to school outside today.
Thanks for the link! I'm having my dh print it out and put it in a binder for me tomorrow at work. I think it'll be perfect for my boys. Could someone tell me what "CGC" is? Still new...haven't figured out what all the abbreviations are yet...
Kbabe I am happy for you too! I am glad you found a good basis for starting too! We love CGC here, WE are actually making it 2 yr class instead of 1 because we expanded our studies and had a couple weeks of no science in books as we planted and did our garden --- there is a unit on that in there! Dalynn hurray! IT feels great when you know what you are doing doesn't it! ?
I didn't get to look at the whole program but it looks fantastic for being FREE! We'll probably use it a bit too! Thanks for the link!
LOL Yes, we'll be doing science this year. Two days per week, and the third (which is normally our co-op but they are off for the summer) will be health from a ps text. I like the CGC too, on the student end. It's just too teacher intensive for me, and I wish it came with a reader! I hope to use this free set as a reader for it, of sorts. Might take me a while to work that out and see how they sync up. I'll update!
Thanks! Hey....TM I have a question...my future 4th grader is concerned that CGC is going to be "too easy" for her...I tried to explain that if she felt the projects were "beneath" her that I could easily assign extra work - like a report on a scientists biography, or something like that. She's an artsy craftsy type child so I thought that even though it would be easier for her than my son...that she'd dig having crafty type stuff to do... What do you think.
