Whatever you do don't name your baby girl after a cold medicine. There is a little girl down the street named Allegra. You know like the allergy med Allegra D? I also know a kid named Myesha and everyone calls her Mylanta. Ugh.

    I still like Ashlyn.

We knew a mother who named her daughter after a brand of bottled water --Dasani, but choosing your child's name at the pharmacy tops that. Here's a glimmer of hope though -- isn't "allegro" a musical term meaning "quick and lively" -- maybe Allegra is the feminine of Allegro. That at least may provide an alternative story for this child rather than ..."You were conceived in the spring when my allergies were killing me and I reached for my Allegra and voila, we had your name. Just be glad that I didn't have the stomach flu instead or your name would be Imodium."

Ava Rose, don't stress it, Joyce was named while I was in labor! My mom (also a Joyce) didn't want us to use that name but decided it was okay as long as we didn't call her Rejoyce! We took the Lynn from my middle name for hers and I thought it was neat when my oldest dd did that with my dgds - Toni Marie (Marie is my dd's middle) and Saundra Lynn (after mine of course). Mercedes (the spelling doesn't look right!) is one of those that seemed to get played out fast down here. Along the car line, I used to laugh when my now 18 yr old dd would say she wanted an Alexis when she grew up - she meant a Lexus.

After watching Sound of Music for the umpteenth time one year, my little sister announced that she was going to name her first daughter Frau Schmidt.

It took us a while to convince her that "Mrs. Smith" just wasn't going to go over very well, no matter how pretty it sounded in German.

I like Ashlyn and Ella. I've only met one Ashlyn before. She was in my son's dance class a couple of years ago.

The Allegra name was a good story. I have a great aunt that wasn't able to read much (only a few words), so she named her daughters Joy (after the soap) and Cori (after her Corian countertops).

My father had a girl in one of his classes that had Marijuana as her first name and Pepsi as her middle name. That was all her mother knew how to spell when she was born.

I agree. Abriella is pronounced the same as Gabriella but with the G dropped. I don't care for Gabriella anymore as it has become too popular. When I saw Abriella in a name book I thought it was cute since it sounded similar and best best of all I could call her Abby without using Abigail. I also liked the nickname Ella.

Janessa is a name I just found in my baby name book. lol. I thought it sounded pretty and unlike any name I considered before. That maybe why it has appeal right now...LOL.

Ashlyn is a name I got from my little dd's 12 Dancing Princesses, Barbie movie...LOL. I was never a big fan of Ashley because I thought it was overused...but sounds nice. I like the way Ashlyn sounds. I don't know of any. However, I didn't know any Alyssa's or Olivia's either when I named my girls and now those names are very popular. I think I may be over the popularity thing in a way because considering that on top of everything else is bugging me out. lol. Ella is another top 100 name. lol.

I am going to cross off Abriella anyway. My dh hates it. And I get the sense that it sounds kinda made up and difficult for others to pronounce or spell. My real name is one I have spent my life correcting and I don't need that for my kid.

I guess I will also cross off Motrin, Tylenol, and Vioxx. LOL..LOL.

So, right now I am still liking Janessa and Ashlyn but that is subject to change. LOL.

I'm sorry to throw the monkey wrench. I know when I was pg I went to this Irish baby name site that had how to pronounce it...Irish spellings & then others. No Irish names here though.
    What about ...
Addison (I'm sure more popular with Grey's) or Mallory (loved that since Family Ties).

And oops... I meant to write it's so hard to find a name that fits a child & adult when she/he grows up!! I reread that I came off kinda harsh...sorry about that.

My best friend in elementary school was a Janessa. She and I had the same birthday; I forget which of us was 28 minutes older than the other. I even - to this moment right now - remember her phone number! LOL

She wasn't the greatest kid in the world, though. Got in lots of trouble, especially once we hit middle school/junior high.

I knew an Ashlyn once too. She lived next door and was a brat.

    That's helpful, eh?

I like both of them, though. Janessa is connected to good memories for me, and you don't run across just millions of them. You do run across plenty of Ashlyns down here, but I like anything with Lynn in it. ;)

I didn't read all the posts.

I say, wait till that little bundle is born, then give the name:) Sometimes they will just 'look' like that special name you've had all along.

I didn't read all the post either, but I love Janessa. I have liked that name for a while now.

I may actually be in Ohio this summer. We are considering a visit to Sandusky and Cedar Point. Is that anywhere near you?

I believe Allegra used to be the name of a little girl puppet character on a childrens TV show called Allegra's Window. It was cute.

I know to many Ashlyns, Vicky is a good name.
Don't go to car dealers or walmart, to get your names.

Ashlyn must be a very popular name in the south...you are not the only southern person who said that. I don't know of any up here and it sounded so different then my other choices so I think that was the appeal.

Never considered going to car dealers or walmart to get my names but I am getting desparate. LOL.

It's funny people keep saying Ashlyn is popular in the south. I'm in Texas and I only know one Ashlyn. Never heard the name before.

HUH. My mother HATES it. LOL. Why does that bother me? Why? It really put a bad taste in my mouth. She told me not to worry about her opinion. She said that I should pick whatever I want but if I ask her opinion she will give it. So, why torture myself? Because I am nuts. Why is naming a baby so hard for me? Oh well. LOL. I can't have a nervous breakdown over baby names. LOL.

Did I mention my dh loves Candace? I mentioned that right? Why can't I love a name? Why can't I love the name Candace? That would be great if my dh and I liked the same names. lol. That is the crux of my problem. If we agreed I wouldn't be bugging anyone about names.

That's funny. My best friend's name is Kandace!

Her actual birth name was some strange African name that nobody could pronounce and everyone always called her Kandi all through school. It was just her nickname. So when she grew up she legally changed it to Kandace.

Funny...Candace is the title of queens of ancient Ethiopia...according to my baby name book. It also means glittering/glowing. Cute, huh? it isn't a name you hear often. My mom's best friend has a dd named Kandace. not sure if my dh would wnat to use a "c" or a "k". I think he wants to at least use it as a middle name. As numb to names as I am it may be the first name. LOL!

You see this how my dh has been able to name every baby! LOL. At least instead of getting nutso I just give him the reigns! LOL.
