I am excited about next year, but in the same breath a little nervous too. The older he gets the more that needs to be done, and it seems to add a little more stress. (((deep breath))) I know we will do fine, I am just over stressing as usual.

Me! Me! I'm excited about next year. :) We are going to go more delight-directed, and ds can't wait to study bats, Johnny Appleseed, biomes, and various animals he's chosen. :D I have everything mapped out including our read alouds. :) I did leave quite a few blank weeks on the schedule so that ds is free to choose new interests.

Of course, we are still pretty pumped about finishing out this year. We are studying dinosaurs right now and ds has ants, the solar system, and meerkats on the list to finish out the summer. I also want to sneak in a unit study on the book, The Old Man and His Door.

    :)

I'm excited because it looks like I'm going to be able to get my MUS and Lightning Lit that I wanted!! Art is working itself out which I'm thankful for because we've never had an actual program to work with. I'm looking forward to this next year because I don't feel like a newbie anymore!

I checked into Lightning Lit for 7th and it looks really neat. I'm still not sure about History though. I am excited about next year, but loving our time off!

New excitement to add to my previous post.......my oldest (who dislikes science) and I had a discussion today about what to do for science next year. We have SOS 5th grade that we got after Christmas to start (she'll be 5th grade soon)...she hates it! We're doing Apologia Zoo 2 as a family but slowly so I want her to get more "general" topics under her belt too.

Anyway, we discussed that "science" doesn't have to just be cells, plants, animals, solar system, etc.....her general picture.

So we're going to add computer "science" to the list by learning to design our own webpage!!!!!

We get free web space thru Cox (our internet provider)....but they don't offer anything else...just the space.........so we have lots of research to do. Rainbow Resource has some kid books but we haven't been to the library yet to see what they have. I'm excited that she interested in anything concerning "how things work".

Might not be the "science" typical for a 5th grader....but anything at this point works for me.......we also discussed physics....hoping to gently ease her into general topics with library books (rather than throwing yet another curriculum her way). She definitely resists anything she things of as "science".

If anyone has used a good webpage book/software....PLEASE let me know. I have ZERO experience.

I feel like such an amateur. (Probably because I am--lol). Everyone has their lists of curriculums and all I have is one... A Beka. I'm so new to this that I haven't really gotten into the different teaching styles and such. My dd is really struggling with math. She doesn't grasp the concept of addition, (She's in K), even with visuals. For example, 2+4, she will count 2, then start over counting 4. We'll get there though.

I am very excited about next year. We are actually going to continue working some over the summer. This school year was basically a waste at the ps, so we have to make up some ground. I already purchased the A Beka 1st grade kit and we are doing the Kindergarten kit right now.

Thanks for everyone's advice. I am so glad that I found this forum.

Mommy don't worry, I feel like and amature and I have been teaching for 11 years with my own kids, longer if you count PRe School!
The only thing we have ordered for certain is the MUS I think.. I gave dh a list for ds10 though, and his are pretty easy for me to teach still!
dd has been in and out of staying home for the past couple of months so I am scattered, up to this week! lol

Have you seen this before? http://www.alabacus.com/
it is a little pricey, but so worth it. I love this program. You can also check out their yahoo group, they usually have lots for sale for a great price.

    (sorry for the highjack here!)

I am also very excited about next year. This was our first year of homeschooling and we set very simple goals - to master math skills, to improve and enjoy reading and to like learning. I think that we more than attained these goals. My daughter now LOVES math and is a great reader. She also can't wait for each history lesson.

I have much of next year planned out, but am still tweaking our approach for some areas.

We finish up this year in about 2 weeks and we're looking forward to swimming lessons, summer camp and being lazy at the pool.

We'll be fresh and ready for next fall!
