What is a Tracking Cookie? My anti-virus keeps telling me that I have one. It also says it is a low risk type of thing but I am still curious.

I'll ask my hubby when he gets home for sure but I think that it's something that basically keeps a record of where you've been and reports it to it's home (wherever that is) probably it came from some kind of customer improvement program or something like that. You can just have your virus scan remove it if that helps.

The tracking cookie is the thing that lets this page know who I am, the next time I come here.... it automatically logs me in because it remembers me...

It is the only way you can have presets on webpages....

They CAN be used for nefarious reasons, but they are as banine as your Kroger grocery card.

    Edit to add...
If you want to stop them (Because they are also used by advertisers) you can click here and learn how to rid them .....

I lifted this explanation from a site...
I think it is really good, especially at the end when it talks about PUBLIC computers....

A cookie is a plain text file that sits on your computer in a temporary folder that stores data about a browsing session. If you log into a website it generally sets a cookie to temporarily store your information so you don’t have to log in every time you change a page.

A tracking cookie is a cookie that tracks your browsing behaviors. Marketers use this data to understand how users use their partner websites and optimize their networks for the average user that visits their networks.

Some people hate cookies, claim they’re spyware, and always delete them. Personally, we’re not exactly worried about them: unless you’ve shared your personal information, the tracking cookies are only going to report browsing habits which helps generate a bunch of marketing statistic.

Really, we think the only time you need to worry about cookies is when you’re on a public computer - like at school or an Internet cafe. In this instance, you should clear the cookies after you’re done so any stored information - such as login information - will not be stored on that computer.

Jennifer's right, Its just a simple way for the page to remember who you are,There is no high virus risk from a tracking cookie but if you do want to clear your cookies out you can go , to tools in your task bar , then internet options, and on your browsing history press delete and you will have a box pop up with options on what you want to delete , i generally just press cookies because my passwords are automatically saved.

Here I thought it was that chocolate chip that I ate and it attached itself to my hips and has been following me everwhere! I've been trying to delete it, but I think it's pretty well entrenched in my software.
