You might want to wait a few weeks for the new version to come out & try that (I believe the current version will be phased out with the new one). You can order a free demo from the Rosetta Stone site, also.
Hey Ladies!! Just wondering what you thought about Rosetta Stone.... I was thinking of buying it for my dds, but was a little apprehensive. Thanks for your input. Melanee
We are using Rosetta Stone v3 for Spanish, right now. It is pretty good, and VERY intuitive. I didn't have to explain one thing to my son, he got it. He is still shy about speaking but we have only been using it for a week. One thing though, I think it takes things very slowly. You do feel like a baby learning the language (intentional from Rosetta Stone) and sometimes that is too slow. For me, that is. YMMV.
I noticed it has 3 levels. So, is v3 the 3rd level? If so, I guess the other 2 levels may bore them very badly? Did you get the audio companion? Was it any help if you did? Thanks for the info! Melanee
No, v3 is for the software itself. You can load all kinds of languages into the software. V3 has writing, I think that is what differs from v2. There are 3 levels for Spanish. Audio companion? It has voice recognition if that is what you mean. It is pretty good although sometimes it is a bit prissy, but you can adjust that.
I just found out that on my library's website the kids can take Rosetta Stone for free. Now I haven't checked out the details....but you may want to check your libraries as well.
I have been looking at RS for so long. We are going to do Japanese as our foreign language and there really aren't any other comparable programs out there for that. V3 looks exciting, especially the HS version, but wow - learning to read Japanese and speak it at the same time looks intimidating. They have a nifty payment plan for homeschoolers now as well. I will probably buy all 3 levels to save some money, and I will definatley be taking advantage of the payment plan. Our library definatley does not have RS for free. Our library district is so rural, not one of the libraries is anything more than an old converted building in the "downtown" areas.
Thanks a bunch for helping me to understand! I do believe we will also go with all 3 levels it looks like a better deal that way. Take care, Melanee
