Hi, My name is Katherine and we are homeschooling our 3 (soon to be 4 on the 30th) son and we are in TX. I feel like I have been homeschooling him since he was a baby. We started Abeka K5 back in January but due to my mothers health problems b/c side tracked and have started with it again. We are just a little bit over half-way finished with Abeka K5. We use Abeka for Phonics/Reading and Math. Considering God's Creation for science after he breezed his way through the Abeka K5 science book in 3 weeks. He is also a very social boy. I sometimes call him my social butterfly. He can sociallize with anyone from 2 years younger to him all the way to adults. Because of his age I don't push him into doing anything. I ask him if he would like to do school today and most of the time it is Yes. However, if he says no well we just don't have school, atleast not with workbooks. We may read, play spelling games on the chalkboard or with magnatic letters, play Jr. Monopoly, do mazes or watch some educational TV shows. I hope to get to know everyone and both provide guidance and to get guidance when needed.

Welcome, Stinkyjoo! May I ask where you got that name? It's interesting! I'm Jackie. I've got three kids, dd11, dd9, and ds6 (in a few weeks). We're currently planning a Dinosaur birthday party for him! We use a little bit of this and a little bit of that...Considering God's Creation for science, The Mystery of History, Horizons math for the younger two.... Oh, and all three are active in AWANAS, so that's what we use for Bible.

    Origin of my screen name

When I was a little girl, really little. My dad would call me Stinky Jo. Well, I am 28 now and my dad still calls me stinky jo. So, I have found that stinkyjo some times is taken so I have started using stinkyjoo (stinky jo but with to o for Joo). My real name katherine and sometimes called Kathy or Kat are always taken.

Welcome aboard! So many new people lately...it's great! I have a 9yo son and 6yo daughter. We use Math-U-See for both...we have Considering God's Creation that I want to do with both kids at the same time. We started it when dd was 5 but she just wasn't quite interested in too much of it at the time. I plan to get it out very soon as she seemed to bud overnight and is picking up things like wildfire now. Ds is naturally interested in science and history so not using a formal program is fine for him. We have Mystery of History waiting in the wings as well....I have not been very anxious to bog us down with formal programs so I need to ease into it as much as the kids .

    Again, welcome!

    Brooke~
Maybe you and I will be starting Mystery of History together next year?! That would be cool! We could compare notes.

Anyway, WELCOME, Stinkyjoo! Is your middle name Jo? Mine is! I have always loved my middle name, but have never been too fond of my first name~ which, obviously, is Heidi. I'm from PA, where I homeschool my 2 daughters~ ages 12 (as of this past Tuesday) and 5. We use a bit of everything, with alot of fun thrown in! We just love homeschooling~ and each year seems to get better and better.
Hope you enjoy your time here with us!

    Hello Stinkyjoo,
You seem to really have things in order with your little one as well. can i ask you what age he was when you starting "Schooling" you mentioned january for starting the series. is that when you started "school" time? or did you always have that kind of play set up for him?

I am starting and wanting to find the best method to use with my 2.5 year old.

I hope you find this site as wonderful as i do.
Check out my "new here" thread. I got a BUNCH of great links from Jenpooh who is the pre-school go to person:) or so they introduced her to me as that. keep an eye out for her she is a pool of knowledge.

Best of luck with all you do with your little one.

Welcome! I am also in PA homeschooling my 7 children ages 6 to almost 14 and I also have an infant. We used Considering Gods Creation last year and liked it. This year we are using Apologia.
This is a great board with great ladies!

Crystal, how's Apologia working for you? Are you doing the General Science? Is Considering God's Creation a good "lead" into it? We started CGC last year, and are finishing it this year. I want Rachael to do Apologia General Science next year. But I was looking at the schedule for it on the Donna Young site, and it looks like SO MUCH!!! Do you have to do much with it, or can your kids do it more or less on their own?

Jackie, I had my 4h grader doing CGC last yr and this yr my two 8th graders are doing Apologia General Science. I really like it. Although I have to tell you they are doing most of the experiments at co-op w/ their class. We are doing one at home this week and did one last week. The book is easy to follow. I like the tests after each chapter to cap what they have read. I will stick with this.
