I was thinking about buttons the other day. My gram gave me this big tin of them, my great granny had & I'm not sure where it has landed. The tops were actually from bottles of water. When we lived in the city, we couldn't stand the water & would get gallon jugs. I kept the caps & recycled the jug. Someone mentioned legos.... I think all kids like to build with blocks. When I taught & we would have some free time (can you believe it) I would ask the students to do a pattern and then they could build whatever.
And if you do lots of sorting, you can teach all about Venn Diagrams. You make a game out of it. "Think of a rule. Then put all the buttons that follow the rule in this circle. When you're done, call me and see if I can guess your rule."
I guess I am not sure exactly what problem you are having with her, which I would need to know before telling you something to try. For instance, is she to the part where she learns addition and just won't try? Is she counting? What is she doing? My first thought was that maybe there is something that is slowing her down. Maybe she doesn't want to do math because she doesn't like it and maybe she doesn't like it because there is something she doesn't understand. My son is 4 3/4 and he is lesson 45 (which is about 1/4 of the way through) Horizon's K math and he LOVES it. I would just try and make sure that she does understand everything up to the point where she is now and maybe even ask her why she doesn't like her math. Then go from there. Best of luck to you!
She knows her colours, shapes and numbers 1-10, but struggles with number bonds, numbers above 10, counting up in 2's, 4's etc and anything else to do with maths! not sure what she should know?
A fun way to teach skip counting. Make a pop-up puppet. Here's a fancy example of one: http://www.thepuppetstudio.com/W.PopUp.html But enchanted learning shows how it's made easier: http://www.enchantedlearning.com/crafts/groundhogday/popuphog/ Anyway, you get the idea. Then you start counting, and the puppet jumps up at every two/three/or whatever number you want. You can give her the puppet, and she can make it jump up at the right time.
for counting up by 's check out Scholastic Rock and the Multiplication rock . They make it fun and put a song in your head and your childs head

We love HOrizon math. It is a very good math and colorful, comes with thick teacher books with good ideas in them. The older grades don't have as much but the k and 1st grade math Teacher books are awesome!
