Does anyone have a review of this curriculum? I'm new to homeschooling and looking to start my daughter in the fall. She's bright, I wouldn't say gifted, but she learns quickly.

I've heard of Horizons, Singapore and Saxon. I covet your advice!!!

We use Singapore, it seems to work great but we have only been at it for a month...

From what I have read from others, if your kid is doing pretty good in math, Singapore is good. If not, then something else would be better.

My son is finishing up Horizons K math right now. It moves pretty fast, but seems to give a good intro to stuff. Most days he wants to do math. We like the fact that it only has a few problems of any one type each lesson. I plan to continue using horizons.

I don't know about Horizons, but Singapore is generally for students who are quick regarding math. We ordered it for my son because he's very gifted in math and can move quickly.

Saxon is more repetitive and memory-based. It isn't colorful at all as they believe pictures/colors are visual pollution [basically very distracting]. I didn't agree with that until I just got the Singapore stuff in; the pictures and colors definitely distract ME, but I guess that's a "to each his own" sort of thing. Saxon introduces ideas and revisits them all throughout the year. There are two sides to the worksheets, one for morning and one for later in the day. The teacher's book tells you exactly what to say and what to do.

I use Horizons. It moves pretty fast. I like it. It is one that can be done with little adult help; you can explain it when a concept first introduced, and depending on the kid, they can go on their own. I don't think they spend enough time memorizing facts.

We have been using Horizons K with my almost 5 year old for about 45 lessons now, and just today, I decided to scrap it. It moves fast. He LOVES it...but I just feel like he is skimming over the top and not really getting a good foundation for his math skills to build upon. Horizons is a great program...but I think of it as something to use with a kid who is pretty well gifted in math - who learns quickly, bores easily, and maybe already has the basics in place. That is just me though. It is about a grade level above any other math program I have seen. By then end of Kindergarten, kids are measuring in cm and inches; finding perimeter of an object; adding 2 digits + 1 digit; subtracting 1 digit from 2 digits; writing, counting, saying numbers to 100, and so on. It is definitely advanced.
