Just wanted some feedback: I am deciding between the following three curriculums for history K/1st

    The Story of the World
A Child's History of the WOrld
Beautiful Feet - Early American History: A Literature Approach

I've done as much online research as I can, but can't find anything that helps me decide.

I will tell you that the types of curriculum we have enjoyed include:
    Math U See
    Devotions for Boys
Explode the Code and Happy Phonics

I have also decided to purchase Christian Kids Explore Earth and Space...

Any feedback on the history curricula is appreciated...as well as the CK Explore E& S

I think that SOTW is a good curriculum if you want an abbreviated survey of Ancient history.

The student book does not stand well on its own. You would likely want to either buy the activity book, or find extra material to use along with the stories and what they cover.

The activity book has many suggestions for activities for lessons, suggested books, reference mats. and also has questions that can be used to either quiz or to kick off discussions of the lessons, coloring and map pages and more.

I would agree with this. We used SOTW (all 4 volumes -started when my youngest was in 1st grade), and did ALOT of extra reading along with it. My kids really enjoyed it. I liked having the CD's for the car. (We live in a rural area and going for groceries is 20 minutes 1 way.)

We also did the Beautiful Feet curriculum you mentioned. Liked it too. We did it in one summer, but my kids are avid readers and were able to do alot of the reading on their own.

Haven't done Child's History of the World yet, but it's on the agenda for next year. My children are older...4th and 6th grade, and I have heard that's a better age for it. I think Sonlight uses parts of it in younger grades.

I do think you will be happy with any of the 3 you listed, they are all good.

    Best wishes.

If you decide you want Beautiful Feet, let me know. I have both primary and intermediate, and would be willing to part with either. If you're interested, let me know, and I'll tell you how much.

I also have CHOW, but it isn't in sellable condition. Here's my take on them:

BF is a lot of coloring. It failed for me for two reasons. First, I was trying to mix the primary and the intermediate together, which didn't work. Second, I felt it was skipping over some areas too quickly. I didn't get very far with it.

CHOW is a good read. It would make a good spine for history, but I wouldn't use it by itself.

I've never used SOTW, so I honestly can't comment on it. I'm VERY partial to Mystery of History; it is similar to SOTW, but comes from a strong Christian world view.

We love the literature based approaches. Used Sonlight early on and went with a more eclectic/custom mix in middle school and now high school. Our grade details are at the EveryGoodPath site link in my signature.

The other site is EveryGoodBook where I've combined all the reading lists we've used through the years and added a simple search interface. Helpful for others planning a literature/"living books" approach.

Neat sites Mark. I'm kinda surprised the forum admins allowed you to post links since you don't have lots of posts yet but they're so full of good info that I'm not complaining

    Welcome!

We're using Sonlight Core 3 for our oldest. The younger two like the Abeka history readers so we use them as a spine and I add extra "stuff" for now.
