Way back in the day I bought me the Woman's Spirit Filled Devotional Bible (something like that), New Kings James version. I bought it mainly because it was pretty, I like purple (I had just started going back to church). For finishing 1st grade I bought my daughter the Precious Moments New Kings James verson (pretty pink). I thought this was great until we started our bible study. Our verses are different (Proverbs 2:3-5 is what we were reading). They are both NKJV and by the publisher Nelson (I think that's the name). This is Grring since my verses/words go better with the bible study than hers. The questions my guide were asking made no sense to her until she read my verses.
I thought all NKJV, NIV, KJV and all the others were writting the same except for the added stuff like devotionals or history extras. If figured all the Proverbs 2:3-5 in all NKJV bibles would have the same wording?
I want to get two of the exact same bibles so we all can have the same verses/words. So what would be a good one for just schooling? Stick to a kids one or with an adult one. These will be our special school only bibles since I am not about to give up mine or she hers. Can't wait to see the look on the cashier's face when I get them too. I seem to always get the ones that questions my 'school only' books but that's another post.

My suggestion would be the KJV. My son was able to understand and memorize scripture in K. He learned 1 verse a week (they all had about 10 words in each verse. KJV flows like poetry when you memorize.

I agree with Ohio Mom. We use KJV here too and no matter how many different publishers/ bibles we get they are always the same!

We use NIV. I'm really curious why they are different, if they're both suppose to be NKJ.

I would go so far as to call the publisher. Unless it's a "kids version", but then it wouldn't really be the NKJV.

I would say that it would have to be a kids version or something like that .I have several NJV NIV NASB ( several of each, what can I say I am like a bible a holic) Each of the same version say the same thing, unless one is like the "simplified" or the womens one I have highlights certian text it deams important to women.

I would check again to make sure that they are really both NKJ or what ever I can't remeber, and that one of them isn't a NKJ with some extra.

I found a NIV that I bought for the oldest 2. They are the Young adventurer bibles. There are a lot of great extras that help with school studies in them. Personally I prefer the NKJ and the NIV.

I so don't need to be teaching the Bible to my kids. Or it was just the heat, it was 90 and dad didn't want the A/C on but we were in the basement. Or maybe it was due to a certain 3 year old who didn't want to be happy at that moment. I just looked back at my bibles and they are the same. I am having my 'blonde' moment. It's me not them. This is a good thing because I saw a purple one the other day that was a NKJV and was tempted to get it for my younger one until I came to my senses. She's only 3. She will get her own bible when she learns to read, right now she has a pretty worn children's bible. Only had it for 20 weeks and it looks as though I have had it forever.

LOL!! Well, don't feel bad. We were at a bible study with friends one night, and I had just received a comparative study bible for Christmas. So I opened it up and was upset because my bible was missing an entire chapter of II Cor. !! Of course, afterward it became clear that all I needed to do was TURN THE PAGE! With 4 versions going at the same time, I was a bit confused.

I suggest KJV all the way. The NKJV is nothing like the KJV....the NKJV does not only changes the "thees" and "thous" it changes meaning. Be careful of any scripture translated for meaning..UGH! Word for word is the best....and IMO...the KJV is the only one. LOL. Sorry...always have to get my plug in for the KJV. LOL.

One of our children recently received one of the recently-published "Bibles" as a gift and did some research on it, since we hadn't previously read that version. It uses occult phrases, sometimes twists verses to mean the opposite of the original meaning, and consistently minimizes the Deity of Jesus Christ.

My dh commented that if we don't base our life on the Truth, as revealed in God's Word, then our world-views will depend on a man or woman's or a committee's belief system and the "bibles" they spin out, which is a shaky foundation at best, dangerous at worst.

We've had other gifts similar to this given to us. 'Kind of a challenge to know what to do because of the good-intentions of the person who gives it...

Momngram, I got a chuckle out of your losing II Corinthians!

When the "holy men of God" were "moved by the Holy Spirit", the Scriptures were written in Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek; and probably all subsequent translations have some human error in them. It is the seemingly deliberate distortion of the clear meaning of Scripture which is dangerous.

Jackie, there are Bible translation comparison lists available on the net, so I'd just encourage us all to research our own Bibles, whatever version they are.

We use KJV, although I'm aware that in Acts 12:4, the translators changed the word "Passover" to "Easter." They also used the word "predestined" in places where it was not warranted. So Bible study continues to be digging for treasure--a worthy life-long pursuit!
