http://www.christianbook.com/Christ...1018818&gclid=CNmEjMHLwJQCFR4vagodWQwrTA#curr My group is reading this book, it is in CBD so Iposted a link to check it out. I want some honest opinions of it without causing problems of people being for or against it. If anyone here has actually read it that would be wonderful! Thanks! t
I'm sorry tm but I haven't read this book. I did read the exerpt on the link. Wow I may have to order this one just to finish it. It looks like a very, very interesting read. Please keep us posted on how it's going.
I'm of no use. After reading the reviews I decided it was total trash. But that's not the kind of input you're looking for, is it? lol.
I was hoping to hear about it myself. I have heard many mixed reviews. I even heard it has a messed up view of God. I sure hope someone can shed light on the issue as this books seems to be pretty big right now.
I only saw a little bit of the interview. But "The Shack" is suppose to represent the place where Christians hide all of our secret failures, sins, bad things that have happened to them, etc. until they are ready to give them to the Lord and let Him help them work through those things.
THanks Carla! ANd I guess aside from checking back here on Thursday I get to read the first chapter.... so I will give my own review then....
Ok...I have read this book and absolutely LOVE it. It has become my most favorite fictional book. From what I have seen, people either absolutely love it, or don't like it at all. I truly believe that depending on how you "see" God yourself...how you think of Him...is what either draws people to this book, or turns them away. I personally, see God as a Father...one who reveals Himself to me in different ways to draw me closer to Him. The story of this man and his family is fictional, but it is an incredible journey that he takes you through. One where he was without God...and then finds Him. But in a different way than I had ever imagined. Some of it is hard to wrap your mind around, but that is where I think the fictional part of the book has its place. (if that makes sense). This book truly moved me. It had me on the edge of my seat at times at crying at other times. I say give it a chance!!! I will be so eager to hear what you think of it.
cool thanks! I am getting encouraged already! Iknow my life group leader really researches and gets indept books for us to study or what not but I am ussed to a Bible study, we are doing a Summer Book club format instead so this could be fun..!?
wow Leslie I am going to check it out then. I read the cover of the book and it looked like something I would want to finish reading. Thanks alot. Next time I go to the library I am going to check for that book.
I can see how people could think that. There is a part that is hard to get past...but if you just keep reading on to see "why", it makes more sense. This is also where the "fictional" part has to be remembered. What I got out of it was.....God loves us SO much that He meets us right where we are at...at the point of our need. Ok.....that is ALL I am saying....read it and see what you think!
So, you guys are saying that they have to be so depraved in the story, as to show us just how down God will dip to reach us to bring us home>?? Like how we are supposed to go down to the red light districts to remind the ladies of the evening that God still loves them? ( I know f a lady who does this she is AWESOME!) I never understood why some folks enjoy murder mysteries or torture flicks, like "Saw". To me it was a legal way for them to get some sick kick watching something happen.... But I think I understand what you are saying, if I got it right.. That God will grab you no matter how low you think you an go??
I am interested in reading the book...I have only heard mixed reviews. I do think that God can relieve you of any circumstance you put yourself into. I also think he will meet you there if you are earnestly seeking Him.
I think I am going to read it 'with a grain of salt'. Thank you all for your opinions I really appreciate them. I will let you all know my take on it when we are done with the book study...
This book is just a story of a man who has had many tragic things happen in his life that makes him question God. And in his search for answers, God meets him at his lowest point and the man finally understands and accepts God's love for him.
TM, after reading your post I checked it out from the library. I was the first one to do so. I can clearly see that this could be a love it or hate it kind of book. For very hard core christians it raises some questions that could trouble their thinking. For those who are a little more open minded it definitly makes you think. I find myself in the loving it catagory, not for the tragidy part but for the faith and God's love part. That made a lot of sense to me. All I can recommend is keep an open mind and listen for God. Edited to add. It is a tear jerker so be forwarned have a box on kleenex handy. I finished it in 6hrs. Couldn't put it down, well I did to sleep then I hit it the next morning. Wow
Yep...that's how I felt...it was all about God's love that got me! That God could LOVE and KNOW me so deeply, to know exactly what I needed to be reached........amazing!
well, I had to buy it cause it was The book we are doing, so I am reading it , up around the 6th chapter now. I can see that the author is trying to portray the personality of God, and I understand that, dont agree with everythign but am not shocked by anythign yet... its kind of interesting, but I am surprised it is such a best seller, the quality of writing, Lol I am critiquing it ! lol Okay anyway I will update as I finish it!
