I signed my 10 yr old up for a Summer History Program through our local museum. They had 4 different programs, 2 each day, for 4 days in a week --- one week in July, one in August.

Well, it's kind of difficult for me to get him over there for the morning programs & his dad had taken 2 days vacation that week in July... so, I signed him up for 2 afternoon programs in July & the other 2 programs on afternoons in August.

He LOVED the July programs -- got to use a quill pen to sign a "land grant", learned what school & games were like at that time, had to make his own corn bread & butter from scratch & build a log cabin. The next two were going to be on Archeaology & Life in the 1840's --- getting to dig in the dirt & play dress-up.

I just got this email from them:

Laura, I have Jacob signed up for summer history programs on Tuesday, August 12 in the afternoon and on Friday, August 15 in the afternoon.

Unfortunately, he is the only one signed up for those programs so far. So unless we get some other participants signed up by this Friday, I will have to cancel those programs and refund your money.

I will let you know what I hear by Friday.

That's a bummer! I was blessed to be able to go with my dd (through ps) on a field trip to the NC Mts and we went "back to the 1800's" and the trip was awesome. It was only 3 days but we had a really good time. We were broken down into two groups - Native Americans and Settlers. One day you were one and the next day we switched roles. The kids got to roleplay and even had a gathering of the two groups to discuss how the land should be shared.

Hopefully some other folks sign up!

    this is a great idea!

We have the opposite problem in our area - these programs fill up immediately - you have to be a very early bird to get in.
