WOW - who is your electric provider?????????????

You may want to look at the website - the power to choose . org.

I live in the Houston subs, almost 2900 sq ft, 2 story (w/ high ceilings on both floors & a 2 story entry) and our last bill was 291.45. We keep the ds at 76-78 and the up is usually a degree higher but turn it down for naptime.

My dh turned the air conditioning off July 1th, our last reading was August 8th. We have a 2 story home with each level having their own meter. The upstairs (bedrooms and washer/dryer(electric) was $24. The downstairs was $67. I have been using fans, turning off lights when we are not in the room. The downstairs also runs the pool pump. I don't think we did too bad. We were $100 less on the upstairs than last year at the same time. I was tempted many times to turn the air on, but I didn't. Of course we live in Northern Ohio, but we had a few weeks in the 90's and nights were hot, too. We were surprised at the difference.

I live in Texas and my current bill is $486.32. 2100sf house - all electric. My bill says 13.93 cents per kWh. I have my a/c set on 78 and the thing does not shut off at all between about 1pm and 8pm. The heat around here lately is crazy!

It's just the house. It's old(er) for a mobile, been hit by a tornado a few yrs ago, lost some of the outside paneling, so it's just "jerry-rigged". Front & rear doors are about falling off --- holes, don't close right. We have cats, too, that get underneath --- probably knocked half the duct work loose... just can't get my other half to crawl under there to have a look.

I have heavy curtains and/or blankets hung over every window & door, my fireplace is ducttaped shut, and I cover the A/C vents & close off any rooms that aren't being used..... the A/C never shuts off & it stays hot in here.

Just yesterday, it was pretty warm & I was cleaning house --- so I set it down on 60 ---- it never cooled off. When I get ready for bed, I went to put the temp back up --- I had to set it to 78 before the A/C shut off, & it'd been running at a setting of 60 all day.

UGh -- I'll be glad when/if we get another house.

I live outside of Phoenix, Arizona. Our KW is .11 for the first 500 Kwh and .09 for all excess.

My electric Bill this month was $260 and I keep my air conditioning at 83! Our gas bill is the same every month at $52. Our house is 2100 sf and two stories. But when it gets up to 115 during the day and only down to 85 at night your air doesn't turn off at all!

2 weeks ago we had a low of 96! Holy Cow I can't wait for winter.

WOw I will quit complaining about our eletric bill. It was 170 this last month. Which was the highest we have ever paid. It includes a $25 fee that is charged then the kwh on top of that. it is charged at .106. We have a gas stove but everything else is eletric with a 900 sqf house. I think it is high because the A/c is too small for the house. We keep the temp at 80, and I line dry all the clothes.

We spend about 50-70 a month during the winter, since I bake bread and such to do most of the heating of the house. We use the heater very little.
We use less then 100 gallons of propane every two years for the stove. Which makes our "power' bills pretty low.
We do not have the option of another company either.

Our eletric bill is about the same as my mom's 2100sqft house and she keeps her house at about 72, with all eletric everything else. But she has worked to get it really well insulated, and has a great a/c that is brand new.

Our light bill?? Ummm....I just bought a pack of batteries for about $8. That should last us a good month or two!!

I say - ditch the house and live in a tent. It's cheaper that way!!

(Sorry about your bill - that really stinks!)

I have to admit I get a kick out of listening to people talk about how high their bills are these days - and know we don't have to pay them!!

I'm not sure how to figure out the killowats, but we pay about $109 for electric every month, and $45 for gas. All of our kitchen appliances are electric as well. The house is run on gas. We live in a two-story house as well, and have some older windows, which makes the price go up a bit as well.
