Oh I can't wait - it shows up tomorrow :) I wanted a Brother HL-2070 color duplex laser printer but $500 was way too much to spend. Well it went on sale yesterday at Amazon for $350!!

SO after talking with my husband he finally agreed. I was able to swing this one by the fact we needed one for the farm as ell to print brochures instead of paying for them all the time. Totally worth it in my opinion :)

PLUS I will be able to turn off my desktop computer and the big power hog of a laser printer since the new printer will be on the network!!

*IT CAME TODAY!!! I was totally NOT expecting it to show up :) But it did and in about 20 minutes I was completely set up with 2 computers!!

Ok - I'm in love! It showed up today and dang it was simple to set up and now I can print from my laptop without my desktop computer being on. Not to mention the printing is pretty!

    It even makes little booklets!!

I still love, love, love my monochrome laser printer but every once in awhile I miss the colour.

    I'm so happy for you!
My laser printer is my best friend! I too am stuck in black/gray shades, but I think it's well worth it for the money I save on ink cartridges!

Ahh- I love printer talk... I just got one too, after a long process of "upgrading" - I started simple, but then realized for $50 more I could get this extra feature... then for $75 more I could get this feature... and after 3 exchanges (seriously) I finally ended up with an HP 2727nf. (had to look that up) and I love it. Now if I could just replace my laptop; it's missing 3 keys and the letter h is, well, stubborn. Must have been the drink that got spilled on it... and who knew a vacuum would suck those keys off?! Eek. But the printer works like a dream. We call it R2-D2. The thing's huge. Wish it would learn how to vacuum.

do you know you can take the face off your lap top? yoou may just hve to clean a key or to on the thing under there that is flat with metal tabs, with a almost dry paper towel or one of those fancy cleaning brushes like a paint brush you can clean it up good as new!
I have a refurbished lap top, have had it open and adjusted the ribbon so that it would work again, Found out it works best with out the frame around it, so I left that off and we have used it fro two years more!

the color is why we went with the one we went with, we use too much color to not have this kind, oh well I still think Lazer is best.

Thanks, TeacherMom - I'll ask my husband to see if he can take it off. His solution for fixing the sticky keys was to drown them in some sort of spray with the instructions, "Um, I wouldn't turn that on for a few hours, you might get electrocuted."

    Okay - Thanks. Good grief.

You can replace the keyboard on most laptops with no special tools or skilled required. Typically you will find a couple of little release latches a the top of the keyboard. Then you tilt it out from the top then lift it forward from the bottom. YOu will find a ribbon cable under it that is connected to the mother board below it. You will usually have to lift a little plactic sleeve that surrounds where the ribbon fits into its connector. THen gently lift the connector out. PLace the new keyboards connector ribbon in that same rectangular place then press down on the little clip sleeve to make it snug. put the bottom of the keyboard in place then lower the top part down and press gently until it snaps into place.

If you have an HP you will be able to find millions of replacement parts on ebay. Corparate America buys and leases oodles of then and the off lease machines are often parted out.

Keyboard keys usually have little rubber springs under them. They look sort of like little clear ice cream cake cup style cones. One end has a black/gray coating on it. when you press on the key this little area of coating makes a connection below it. If the key is not springing up , or not registering keystrokes consistently, you can gently lift the key take the rubber spring out, take a qtip and clean under it, wipe the spring with some thing soft then put back in place. Some of the springs are still attached on the sides of the top and bottom of the circle areas they sit above, in this case you move then to the side or rock them back to clean under and around them. Place the key back in place and press it back into the locked in position.

When removing keys, do not play with or re-riorientate the little lattic legs under it.

Thank you! I still can't figure it out - but I'll ask DH to help. He's a little grumpy this weekend because he has to work, so I'll ask him next week and even give him a print out of your instructions.

    Sorry for the hijack!
