I heard somebody say that they oil their printer. This is the first time I heard this. Am I supposed to oil my printer?
LOL. I have never heard of oiling a printer either. In 10 years I have only had 2 printers and I have not had a problem and never oiled them...so...I am guessing it is not the norm.
You can in fact oil a printer , but it is only recommended if you really know what your doing , and if the printer is not running properly, but as many household printers are use to heavy printing theres generally no need for it.
Thanks for the laughs dawninns and thanks for the info Faith!!! I guess the lady isn't so nuts after all. When I heard her say she oils her printer, I was sure she didn't have a clue. Hmmm! That was the first I ever heard of it.
I have seldom seen printers that need oiled in almost 10 years of computer repair and consulting. The exeption being some lazer or LED printers that get very hot inside such that the grease melted and dripped from the gears. If you have a cat, you might get some cat hair on the bar or bars that the print cartridge carriage runs back and forth on. If you wipe this off you might consider greasing it again. I would use something like singer sewing machine grease if you have it. NOT OIL. If not use a dab of Petrolium jelly AKA Vasiline with a qtip or your finger. Leave only a small smearing, like after you apply suntain oil to you skin just shiney but not lumpy or drippy. Ditto the plastic gears at the end of the paper runners. Chances are that if you are getting new noises that your gears are loosing teeth or something is miss aligned. Most prniters use a rubber piece of some sort to feed paper into the machine. THis is often the week piont of the printer. as this wears out ans looses its roughness, it will quit grabbing paper.
