I have a 15 yr. old ready to study for his permit, but don't you have to show a form that shows enrollment in school? How do I do that? Or what will they ask for? I gotta get going on this so he can get it by November, so he can get his license on his 16th b-day.

I do not know Texas laws, so double check, but do you have to send in a notice of intent each year? If so a copy of that should prove sufficient for proof of enrollment.

We don't live in Texas but my kids didn't need proof of enrollment.

What course is your child taking?

my dd who is 15 is doing through the drivers Ed office just go on line they will ask for you to fill out a form and then they send you a number and a book, Oh you have to send a check for 20.00 dollars before they let you print the program off line. you go on line and copy these papers off now they have to be in a binder and theres two binders full and they are called Module's they have to be in order finish and keep tracks of hours for doing them. They have to finish Module one then they can go write there permit. Once that is done, they then need to finish the other Module which is a total of nine more and driving hours. Then you have to keep track of every Module and how long they did it and if they had any trouble with it.
Sounds like alot is overwhelming but we are enjoying it.
Why does he need his license in Nov? That's not going to give you much time to do all the stuff. I really don't know if they would let him do it that fast. Check with them. You can only do so many hours of school in drivers ed a day. I think right off the top of my head not more then 2 a day...

My friend's daughter took hers through the college. The mom just signed a paper saying she is homeschooled.

here in California you just go online and sign up for a written class, they take lessons and send answers in via internet class.
Then they recieve a receipt that says they took the written course and signup for a driving class ... thats the part where the guy with the sign on his car comes picks your childup and teaches them to drive away Lol.
All in all , even the public schools are doing it this way here.

I don't know about proof of enrollment in schools, but surely the DMV deals with that and can answer the question. I'd just call and ask. Worse that can happen is that they won't know the answer and you'll have to ask somewhere else. LOL

My mom taught my two sisters to drive at home. They had to verify so many hours of parent instruction, which basically involved writing down how much time they spent (days and times, plus an hours tally). Then they borrowed the video from the video store, watched it, and paid to have my sisters take their driving tests.

When I did it, I actually went to a drivers' ed school thing during the spring when I turned 16. But this at-home thing wasn't an option then. (My mom doesn't homeschool my siblings, but for driver's ed she did!)

Anyway. Shouldn't be difficult. Just call the DMV and ask.
