Hey there, I'm sure if I looked through the tm I'd find the question for this but I haven't got time right now. So thought I'd ask those who have used saxon....
Do they tell you when to do oral evaluations or tests in the daily schedule or do you just decide when to administer them?
    Thanks bunches:!:

    Saxon phonics?
The assessments come up regularly every few lessons.

We skip the tests also. If they do the practice problems each day and you review it and see from the look on their face that "they get it", the tests are redundant.

I was wondering this also. I was looking today because ds asked when he had to take his first test. It showed that the first tests covered Lessons 1-5, but you administer it after teaching Lesson 10. Then the second test covered 6-10 and you administer it after you teach Lesson 15.

Didnt make a lot of sense to me. I think I WILL do the tests, just because ds is very much a study for the test and do well on the test kind of student. But I will administer it after the last lesson it covers. It doesnt make sense the other way.

    Saxon math tests

You are supposed to take the tests every 5 lessons. they are so similar to the daily worksheets anyway, I think that you should let them take them. That way there is no doubt the they are retaining all that they are learning. Saxon is beyond easy to follow, I was a bit skeptical at first, but now I love it.

I'm loving it too. I am not very secure in math (I mean obviously I KNOW 1st & 2nd grade math, I'm just not 100% confident in teaching it properly!) so I love the way it is laid out and even tells you what to say. :)
The kids are loving it. Especially all of the manipulatives. Math-u-see did have the blocks and I think they enjoyed that aspect best of all last year but they love everything that comes in this! :D
    So far so good though.
Since we have to do end of year testing I am thinking that it might be a good idea just to make sure that he has mastered whatever we're currently learning. If not every test, then at least every other. Or maybe the written if not the oral, etc. Haven't decided yet.
