Okay, so our local homeschool store sent out an email this morning that she is overstocked on homeschool curriculum, and instead of sending it back she is marking it all down. Wohoo- I'm there! The boys and I walked through the store and you know what??? I walked out without getting anything (except the metric math workbook my son has been wanting). I honestly think I have the curriculum for this year to teach the boys all they want/need/will learn- and I'm happy with that. Wow, a mature moment for me. I am a curriculum-aholic- yup, need the program and all- but I really didn't see anything that was going to make our year any better- so I left! Anyone else done that lately? MT3 (Oh, and my kids did want the last three Veggie Tales DVDs, and a bird book with bird calls, and a video game- but not any school work!)
Not that I've had the money to buy anything if I wanted it, but yeah - I'm pretty happy with our choices for curriculum this year. I'm still missing OPGR, but it's just because I haven't had the money to buy it yet. LOL But, yeah. I've been browsing "for sale" ads on WTM and in our local group, and it's like... eh. Who cares? YAY!
clap clap clap, thats so cool! I have been doing a lot of "window shopping" too lately, cause I have what I need, but I have the urge to go shop, so I walk around the store and leave.
WOW! <claps> the first step in handling a problem is admitting you have a problem! Very good! Hello, my name is Autumn and I'm a curriculum-aholic!:wink:
Ah...No. In the last week I've bought a big lot of books on Canadian history, Artistic Pursuits (I had no plans for formal art), L'Art de Lire (I had no plans for French) and an inflatable globe. I am drunk on curriculum spending right now from the combination of having money due to DH's new job (after a decade of having none- money that is) and always being a click away from Paypal. I need some of your maturity. Help!
I think Ive spent maybe 40.00 on the supplies for this year...we have alot of stuff as it is and if i need something I'll go looking for it as we needed. Great Job!!!
thats where I am headed in the next couple of years Melissa, ds is about covered from 7th grade on I think for most classes! I am so excited, to not have to spend it on curric means we can go more places and do more things!
we still have the geo safari globe my mom bought us back when dd was like 4 , it needs battaries but is in good shape!
So glad there are others like me out there! Thanks for sharing my moment today, as my DH and my dc would probably not understand. I found a globe at Kmart several years ago for about $14 and it's wonderful! I HAD to buy it when it had the little town we lived in on the globe itself! We use it all the time... the poor thing about spun itself out during the opening ceremonies of the Olympics as we tried to find each country before they moved on to the next one! I'm still trying to figure out the OPGR thing....in my house of boys I can't get past "Optimus Prime Green Ranger"!! Oh, and dawninns- I let my Paypal expire so as to NOT be tempted to click something!! MT3
Have you checked your library? Ours has the OPGR. Just a thought.....might help you know if you really "need" it or not. I own it but haven't used it...yet. I expect to need it soon because DS6 starts long vowels soon and I know it's gonna send him for a loop so I need all the Jessie Wise help I can get (lol). If he "gets it" without the anticipated difficulty then I'll PM you
I had one before I ever thought of having kids (because I LOVE globes and maps). Of course, they decided it needed to be played with so the stand part got broke on it. Then daddy and kids (so...does that make 3 kids that I have? yeah, that sounds right) decided to play toss with it in the living room! arrrrg! no! So now, I believe South America has a huge crater in it. I still use it occasionally but I'm ready for a new one that I can strictly say no playing with it! no tossing it! We sit down calmly with it and LOOK AT IT!
