I know that many of you have done this before!

So...Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown. My son (almost 7) is reading for his young boys book club this month. But I'd love to make it a school year long project.

I'm thinking I'd like to make a Flat Stanley (or Liam :D) and send it around with a journal for folks to fill in with info about where they live, maybe take a picture of them doing something fun with the Flat Man, etc.

I totally think my son would get a kick out of it.

    Any takers?

    Email me!

    THANKS!

THANK YOU! Send me a PM with your address, and I'll start a list for "Flat Liam" to travel around. We haven't made him yet, and we're still reading the book so he won't go out until next week or the week after.

    :)

Sending a PM! We'll be doing this later in the year....

Autumn, Flat Stanley is a book. In the book, the boy gets smashed flat by a billboard and discovers that he can fold himself and mail himself to different places. Just a fun, hands-on type of tie-in project to go with the book, common with homeschoolers, is to make our own Flat Stanley guys and mail them to other homeschoolers... who then take him and do something with him, take pictures or write notes, and send him back. :)

We've done a few for others out there, but haven't done it yet ourselves. Can't wait til ours, which is planned for February!!

YES! Send you're info, please, that would be AWESOME! :D I believe if you click on my name, you can choose "send a pm" and it will open up your mailbox to type me a PM". Worst case scenario - i.e. you're the only across the pond folk, I'll have it returned to me and we'll send onto England so that no one else has to incur higher postal costs.

I'm hoping to make it a school year long project for him, maybe we can watch it as it makes it's rounds sort of thing.

I'm working with him on making a "Flat Liam" and on making the journal to go with it. SO far I have addresses for:

    Autumnleavz
    Sloan127
    Emma's#1Fan
    Bry'sGal
    Learningnest
(Dalynnrnc - I don't have yours yet :D but see you want to join in:D)

    We'd love more.

I'd say, instead of sending out multiple ones, and multiple books. I'm going to send one and let each person know where to forward it to (Kind of like the Travel Journal that AussieMom sent around last year). And then when he's made all the rounds it can be returned to us. :D

    THANKS ALL!!!

Count us in. We did one last year and my oldest made winter clothes because ours came from the dessert. :)

This is totally cool. We have done this with my friend's two sons, in public school. Stan came to Houston and we took him all over - to the zoo, to cows, horses, outdoor art sculptures, Yo Ming, oil companies. We created a notebook and letter to send back with him. We then solicited oil companies for trinket type donations and sent all the goodies back for the class to share. The kiddos absolutely loved it. I never thought of it as a hs project.

    Sounds cute!
We hosted Flat Cowboy last and made him a black jacket and tie to wear to the theatre. It was so funny to take his picture with it on.:D
