Does anyone know of a good writing course for an older highschooler who has grammar down and needs something to teach her writing? Not just technical stuff like papers, but stories, narrative, essays, etc.

I will be looking at this one, my dd has the back bone for writing but needs the inspiration. She knows her grammar well enough but her length of answers is killing her lesson work. She thinks logically, is that how your highschooler is?

I highly recommend WriteGuide it is like having a private writing coach, a personal tutor. It is very expensive, so cost may be prohibitive.

Another one we used in junior high, but they do have high school level courses including one on short stories is Write at Home. It is not as personal and intense as WriteGuide, but it was a good solid course that we took. It is still pricey, but not as much as WriteGuide.

I recommed IEW. You could get the TWSS and SWI B for a High Schooler. After that (the next year) you could go to SICC C and that would probably be enough. They have other stuff for older kids, and have a yahoo group where you can ask questions about the program.

Its expensive but IMO well worth it. You can check it out here.

Since your high schooler is older and has grammar down, is it possible to get him/her into an online college writing class. I do not know how your state works but here, in California, the highschooler would get high school credit as well as college credit. I took a college writing class in high school and it was a lot easier than I thought it would be.

I just reread what I typed and I guess I made a typo. Excuse my bad typing. What I meant to say was SWI-C and SICC C for a high schooler. Not SWI B thats for a little younger kids.

IEW is Institute for Excellence in Writing, I posted a link above. Its that expensive writing program that, once when I posted about it people said it better be made of gold before they would buy it.

Its really worth the money though. I am really glad I got it.
