Formaldehyde is nasty! [IMG] If you can stomach that, you can stomach almost anything.

My DH was upset when talking about cells, tissues and body organs. If it gets too bad we'll just go onto something she is interested in and leave the body parts until later.

We had a neighbor who never emptied there trash. They tossed it in their shed instead. Well, once they moved and the new neighbors started to clean the shed, dozens of huge rats and baby rats scattered. My next door neighbor killed a couple in his garage and I found three in my garage. They weren't babies but not quite adults either. Honestly, they were kind of cute. But they didn't last long once they ate the bait.

I'm new to this forum and homeschooling as well, but my daughter dislikes some parts of science also - for her it's not the creepy crawling things, she likes that. It's the plants that are boring to her.

I recently read somewhere that what's most important about science is the methods used to study. In other words, it doesn't matter so much what she is studying, as long as she grasps scientific procedures.

So, we glossed over the plants pretty quickly, and general cell biology but we are going to look pretty deeply into DNA because that interests her very much (she's a big CSI fan).

We kind of settled on a project for science instead of work in an actual science book for now. I found an old leaf collection that I did in 7th grade. That interested her so she is doing one. She has to collect 15 different leaves and identify them, write about their habitat and something interesting about the tree. She is going to press the leaves between some wax paper and make a booklet out of it - typing all the labels, etc. She is pretty excited about that. That's OUR science for now!:D
