Hey ladies, I was wondering if you all get doctors notes for days missed just to have on file? I dont live in a state where I have to keep attendance or anything and I had never bothered with dr. notes before, but the thought crossed my mind today that it would probably good to have them filed away with our other paper work incase anything were to ever come or some junk like that (you never know....cyob). I was just curious if any of you do that? We had a dentist apt today early and ds was so out of it from the meds that we wouldn't have been able to do work when we got home if we wanted to. Tuesday we had to call it an early day cuz of dd's orthopedist appt which lasted 3 1/2 hours!!!! 3 of which were for waiting! I was not a happy momma! Anyhow, I'm tired so I'm rambling. I just hate having to miss so much. Oh another question: Do you try to schedule your appts on the same day or just let them come as they do and just take time off for each? thanks ladies!!
I dont see why you should keep the dr's notes. I do try to make our appointments for the same day of the week if I can. I like to get a good 4 day work week in each school week. (We homeschool year round.)
I don't get doctor's notes. I just make appts as the need arises and I usually make them for after noontime as we are usually done with school most days by then.
We dont need it here in Texas for homeschooling in the public schools they have to have it to get back in to school. I dont bother collecting them. I have had my doctors asked if I want it I tell them no
I never get them. If we have to be gone all day for an appointment out of town I will take their work or not count that day. Most of the time our appointments don't take that long, so we just do our work before or after the appointment.
Thanks so much for your input ladies. It's funny because before offices would ask if I need an excuse and I would defiantly say "No, we are homeschoolers, we don't need one". Tuesday they asked about my daughter and I just said "no", lol. I said the same thing for my son yesterday but she said "Well, I already have it printed so if you don't need it, you can just throw it away", lol. But it's funny that I used to broadcast it now I'm just simply saying no.
No, I don't get notes. Fortunately, my kids aren't sick often. But I WILL send work to the Doctor's Office with them! Especially when all three are going to the dentist, and I know two will be waiting while the third one is is there. So that three-hour wait wouldn't be TOTALLY wasted! One time, we went to a new dentist. I had some EMERGENCY work, and my dentist was on vacation and refered me to this other guy. He was a Christian, and his aunt was his receptionist. So they had the Christian station playing in the background. Faythe actually went up to her, and asked her to please turn down the music, because she (Faythe) was singing the words to the songs couldn't get her math done, lol!
No notes here. We only have to be in attendence for 180 days. The state doesn't mandate when those 180 days take place. If we have a day off, we just make it up at the end of the year. Basically, we finish school at the end of the year when most of the material is covered and not necessarily when PS ends. So eventually we get in those 180 days
Thankfully I had thought to bring books for them so during the 3 hour wait they were actually sitting quietly and reading books. I have to say that they handled the wait quite well, better than me I think...I was getting perturbed! lol.
I don't get doctors notes either. I do schedule their appointments in the HS Tracker though. So, I guess if I needed to look back, then they would be their.
I dont get notes, but then we dont do doctors unless we get hurt at this point with the shot stuff behind us for the most part,
NOPE! Actually it's great to NOT have to get them anymore  Our school district couldn't care less about them (the notes)....or us as long as we're following the law. Rhonda
Back in '05, there were a bunch of medical situations in our family. I mean, everyone but the dog! I explained it to Jeannie's evaluator, and he was fine with it. Now, if we skip school for a field trip, I'll just tell him that's what we did. As for appointments, I try hard to do them Saturdays, after classes, or if it is for me, a day that my husband can take Jeannie to her classes.
We don't typically. We do dental appts. but if we're sick, we usually just ride it out because meds usually don't do very much to help it. However, we do have to go to the orthopedic appts for my dd, they're a must.
I do not get any doctor notes. Although Emma's doctor has tried to write them for me. Emma's asthma can get pretty nasty so the doc writes an excuss for me to keep her out of school for two to three weeks. Then I remind her that Ems is homeschooled.LOL I also make Emma's appointment for the very first thing in the mornig. So we are first in and first out. This allows plenty of time to finish up her work, unless she is really sick. I also keep track of appoinments in my planner and on the attendance sheet.
tecnicaly you could class some appointments as educational trips. my 4 year old has lernt so much from my husbands hospital visits, he had an operation in march and 2 weeks following (after watching the practic nurses daily she could have quite easaly have changed Dh's dressings herself. she realy wants to be a nurse. shes come to numorouse amounts of blood tests too. the other day i had my ultrasound and took all the kids with me, i explaned to the sonagrapher that we homeschooled and she kinda made the visit educational for them, explaning how the process works and showing them parts of the baby, My son was amazed to see all the valves of the heart and the brain it was such a great experience.
If you don't mind me asking, why does she have to go to an orthopedic doc? I had to go to one as a child as well. We go to the Chiro and that is it. That is the first place we go when ill.
Here's what we do, Drs or ANY interruption... I make a note of it on our little weekly schedule. The weekly schedule is for one week. I make 6 at a time... yes, six week blocks... So, if anything happens that day, I make a note of it.. If anyone wants to make a federal case out of where we were, they can spend the money to get the doctor records to prove that we were actually there... That's it, I just note it down.
