Music is one thing that completely moves me. If it also moves you, perhaps this will speak to you, or perhaps it will help reach your unsaved friend... Many great songs never reach me, because I get distracted by the music. Perhaps it is not my "Style". And I would hate to miss a message, just because I don't Get" the music. I mean it is just not "me" to hear Rock of Ages to a rap beat. BUT, it might reach someone else, right? So I ADORE Christian music that is set to ALL KINDS of music! Ok, back to the original point of this post... Many contemporary Christian songs that play on our local station remind us (Me and DH) of former popular artists. It is almost as if those artists did a "Christian Album", just as many do a "Christmas Album". I find it pleasing to my ear and heart... Ok, so.... There is one song that just broke me down today.... It is new to me.... The group is DOWNHERE The song is How many kings. My DH and I used to listen to QUEEN Everyday. I mean so much so that it sometimes sounds like they are playing OUR music that WE wrote on the radio... It is just so personal for us.. This new song is awesome to us.... It sounds JUST like QUEEN. You know... Freddy Mercury and the boys. It is strait from songs like "Love of My Life"... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ffkdUEMgqk&feature=user Anyway, the song had me and the lyrics are AWESOME! Here is the youtube of the "How Many Kings" song WITH lyrics! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulY2KPmpMwk Isn't it AWESOME!??? Do you have other christian groups that you like that remind you of your favs from the secular world?
What type of Rock are you looking for, metal or traditional? There are lots of really good Christian bands. I know sd is into bands like Skillet, Hawk Nelson and Roper.
Jen, that's the first time I've heard that song! As far as Queen goes, well, yes, in my more-heathen days, lol! And I made Rachael sit down and listen to Bohemian Rhapsody. But I think my favorite was "Seaside Rendezvous". An incredibly talented group!!! They use to laugh every time I put on Meatloaf when I was in college...."Better watch out! Jackie's in a heathen mood tonight, lol!" As far as Christian Rock goes, I don't pay much attention to it any more. I grew up on the Greats of Christian Rock....Phil Keaggy, Larry Norman, Second Chapter of Acts, Honeytree, Keith Green..... Phil Keaggy had a concert in Columbus last year, and I MADE Carl take me! He's STILL got it, lol!!!
 I knew what band you were going to be talking about by your thread title! I wasn't "into" Queen, per say, but I liked them when I heard them on the radio... back in the day. The lead singer of Downhere, Marc Martel, sounds so much like Freddie Mercury it's crazy. He has a very powerful voice! I've seen Downhere in concert and they open with a little bit from Queen's "We Will Rock You." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u5eJUAjzmMQ&feature=related They're actually performing near me (for free!) tomorrow so I'm going to try to take the kids to see them. Maybe it won't be too crowded. Have you seen this video of them cutting "A Better Way" - it's EXCELLENT! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K67RBLmM6Ls
Oh I agree! I used to say, "Why does passionate christian music have to be so NEUTERED?" Sorry, but that is how I felt. Then.... Give our local station a try... Monday through friday is contemporary christian with an edge, mixed with some that sounds like whitney houston... Then saturday night is like Metal christian... And sundays are sermons, top 20 countdown, which I LOVE! and talk shows... Http://www.ksbj.com
I had to search for this but if you want to hear more of Marc Martel's vocal talent, and why he sounds so much like Freddie, let this video load and then skip over to about 55 seconds into it where he starts singing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pfMxjjB7has&feature=related Cute little Canadian band.
I like all kinds of music including christian and the 80's I love the beat not the lyrics so I can care less what it is saying however.... I dont like abstract music and rap especially they are yelling more then the music with cussing its hard not to hear. Sam
Or, as Larry Norman (who looked almost like that picture of Jack you posted with the long hair and guitar) put it, "Why should the devil get all the good music?"
