Yeah that's where I saw it, maybe on the hallmark channel??? Not really for sure now. But I had seen it on there many times since. I loved the mural it taught. The daughter was so wrapped up in her world and thought (as all teens do) that her life was so horrible. I loved it!
It had to have been on network TV at least once, because I don't have cabel. But they may have shown it on Hallmark, too.
Aussiemum, thanks for the Aussie suggestions. It's our own stuff I always seem to have the most trouble getting something Ditz & I can connect with. CrystalCA: Yes, the Desert FOx is good; the other's not ringing any bells but will probably be ok. After all I sing Hitler's praises for putting in the autobans. They are brilliant! And I have shocked successive generations of kids with my views on how Hitler came to power, why it was the allies fault & why he was viewed as a saviour ~ at least initially. Can anyone remember the title of an American non~fiction book about the history teacher who taught about the holocaust by recreating the conditions of Germany in his classroom with somevery scary consequences? Truely frightening stuff with an invaluable lesson.
CelticRose: They just turned that into a movie!!! What an experiment that teacher did!! It was back in 1967 and the teachers name is Ron Jones and the program he designed was called The Wave. Here is a link to the movie and an interveiw with Mr.Jones: http://www.guardian.co.uk/education/2008/sep/16/schoolsworldwide.film
Goodnight nister tom is a great book and film, and a great resorce too. it gives an evaquee's(sp) perspective on the war and shows and tells of village life and city life in that time. It provides a lot of learning outcomes in many ways. Back home if its the one im thinking of (with rusty as the main charictor?) is also great and by the same author "michelle migorian"
CrystalCA: The wave! That's it! I'd love to see the movie version. The book was frightening. I think my older girl studied it. I want to do this one but am a bit worried it might be too much for Ditz. Thanks for the link. Never mind the kid, I'm interested! nicolence ~ the michelle magorian books are fabulous & well written as well! Always a bonus.
Celtic I remember reading the wave in my teen years - I loved it. We still have it here somewhere.....
The Scarlet and The Black is also excellent. It primarily deals with the German occupation of Rome and really exemplifies the courage of those who protected and hid the jews.
Thanks, Ladies, for all the great suggesions. Aussiemum, If I can't find our opy of The Wave can I e~mail you for yours? That was such a great book. Diana, thanks. I'll look into that one too.
