Does anyone have any good sites for fall crafts/activities/printables/lesson plans that don't include halloween or are designed so that the halloween can be skipped or deleted...I'm not finding much and I really wanted to spend this month teaching everything or mostly everything with a fall/harvest theme. I was able to find a few coloring sheets and a few activities on dltk kids and learning page but all the other sites I've looked at don't have anything that doesn't include halloween and since we don't celebrate/participate in halloween type things we need to exclude that from our teaching. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
AUTUMN!!! That explains it! I'm a do-do. I've googled fall, harvest, pumpkins, apples, corn, leaves, and gold, yellow, red and come up with very little..somehow I forgot all about autumn....wow do I feel silly!

Look for things dealing with Fall Festival Focus on apples, scarecrows, harvest, pumpkins (they aren't just for jack-o-lanterns), oh and don't forget this week is fire prevention week!
Yup we've got a bit of fire preventions week planned in...basically I figured I'd teach them the whole get low and go thing and the stop drop and roll thing..along with how to get out of our apartment if there's ever a fire and where I want them to go. Then we'd color a few firemen/fire trucks sheets and this weekend the babysitter has a pancake breakfast at the fire house and they'll be giving a tour for all children in attendance. I also wanted to do a bit of Christopher Columbus but aside from the old rhyme I learned in Kinder I think and the names of the ships I'm at a loss for what to teach at this age.
www.scholastic.com has a little lesson on the first Thanksgiving that I like. www.apples4theteacher.com has quite a bit on Columbus (day). These sights are much more age appropriate than the autumn one I posted earlier.

What's wrong with Halloween? Is it the pagan thing? In that case you better skip the Christmas trees and Easter eggs, too. Just sayin'
It is a personal choice for our family to not celebrate Halloween. My husband and I made this choice years ago and we will continue to omit Halloween from our discussions, lessons, and celebrations.
I am not doing Halloween crafts this year and have decided to focus on the fall instead but one thing that came to mind was bones. With all the skelotons (sp) out there I figure now be a good time to go over parts of the body and bones with the kids. I did it last year with my oldest but very basic. This year I will add a bit more to it. I have these large child shape postor boards so each kid can draw on it. After we talk about bones I will talk about the organs. We also have been drawing all the trees, leaves, and seeds around our house. I am planning on getting a pumkin and made homemade pie (a friend did this and it was sooo yummy).
That's a good idea. We also watched a pumpkin decompose one year. It goes prety fast if you cut the top off and scoop out the inside. There's a book that goes along the same lines about a mouse who tries to live in a rotting pumpkin. Can't think of the title right now. There's also Johnny Appleseed. We've done some geography by tracing his journeys. FamilyFun recently had an article on making apple heads- the ones you carve and dry out.
YEs the bones are great to grab up and hang on to! We were doing tis last year so we had ample supplies of "bone heads" as ds calls them. We choose not to celebrate all Hallows eve because its just too dangerous these days. We often will go to a Fall Festival and let th ekids dress in whatever they wish , play games ride the horses etc but that is different to us, the focus is just on no fear to deal with just plane fun. I mean thinking of sending my kids out to roam around in the dark in MY neighborhood ....... not gonna happen lol, We have always focused on the Harvest time of year just because its when it is, and its the best way to teach the seasons and such.
