Hello! I am thinking of what to do to focus more on the things to be thankful for this year.. does anyone have ideas of how to incorperate Thankfulness into writing projects and art projects for the next month or so? What do you do on Thanksgiving itself? Do you share it with friends or family? thanks!
thankfulness wreath i think the website was enchanted learning had a great idea for a thankfullness wreath. it even had a leaf template to use, i think we will do this craft, but it will also be for handwriting. also, i thought abought having my dc writing paper on what they know about thanksgiving, then go from there and look stuff up to see if they are correct if not correct then editing. this may take all month, but thats ok
For writing projects you could have them write about the people they are thankful for and why, the places they are thankful for and why, things they are thankful for and why. For art projects how about a thankfulness tree...cut a tree out of construction paper and put it on the wall then every time they think of something to be thankful for or you do for that matter write it on a leaf and put it up on the wall...see how full you can fill it by Thanksgiving day and then take all the leaves and put them in a jar and just before supper you can have each family member pull one leaf and read it aloud to everyone.(we do this each year and it's always a big hit, my mother started this with me when I was young and I've been doing it every year since.)
I used to have my kids write 3-5 things they were thankful for everyday and then reflect on those for Thanksgiving. I don't do that anymore. Maybe I will start that up again. I think that I will use verses and quotes about thankfulness for their copywork for November. I will try to do some crafts or cards or something also. For Thanksgiving we are either at my mom's or my dh's family. This year it will be at my house and whoever can come. Not sure if Mr. and Mres. Whoever are available..lol.
We aren't doing anything as far as school is concerned other than crafts. At our dinners we do share what we are thankful for.
Just a warning if your kids are anything like I was you will need A LOT of little leaf cutouts! It might be helpful if you have a die cut machine, and if not check out a local scrapbooking shop they usually have one you can use free of charge if you buy their papers. I know come Thanksgiving I had that tree FULL of leaves!
For art projects how about a thankfulness tree...cut a tree out of construction paper and put it on the wall then every time they think of something to be thankful for or you do for that matter write it on a leaf and put it up on the wall... We had Thanksgiving last Monday ( Canada) and had been working on this idea ! The kids love it !
lol...Happy Thanksgiving Dawn! How was it???? Hope you got to enjoy a nice holiday with your friends and family!
One year our children wrote letters to the people they were thankful for- just telling them why they appreciated them. It was definitely a hit with the older cousins.
It was great. On SUndat we had Turkey dinner with the in-laws and on the actual hoiliday we went to a farm/park with a corn maze and then out for Chinese food. The latter might become a thankgiving tradition.
That sounds nice. You have me wanting turkey already! I had chinese last night, lol. That would be a nice tradition to start.
You know, I think I start thinking about Thanksgiving so early in US because of my growing up in BC! lol! I grew up with two thanks givings, we celebrated both, my sis still does as half her family is Canadian!
