The girls spent the better part of yesterday afternoon working on their little chipmunk experiment. They collected over 300 acorns and left them on the back porch. A chipmunk carted off ALL of them. They were able to see those jaw pouches in action, REAL close up It looked like a little hoover..lol.
What a wonderful thing for them to experience! I'm sure the chipmunk was very appreciative too! Beautiful photos! We have a lot of squirrels, perhaps we should try something similar.
Oh! I am BESIDE myself with glee watching you watch your girls! How awesome! Thanks for sharing. And you are right! BETTER PART OF A DAY ON ONE SUBJECT?? Oh the HORROR! hahahaha!
What awesome photos! Thanks for sharing. Now I think we need to collect acorns too. Just how to lure those cute little guys up to the deck to collect them...
those are some good pictures. We did something like that last year on our front porch. We watched both squirrels and a chimpmunk gather up their goodies that we put out for them. It also kept my younger ones busy while I taught my oldest.
Those were great pics. My little one has begun to collect acorns (she calls them popcorn) and she keeps trying to eat them. I'm not sure we could get her to give them up for squirrels or chipmonks.
We collect acorns, but just to play with!!! We do throw our fruit that is starting to spoil out in our weeds for the animals...turkeys & deer!!! We have had 3 deer out back a couple days, but haven't seen them in a few days!!!
Those pictures are so cute! I really think children learn so much more and have much more meaningful learning when homeschooling. When in a brick and mortar school, textbooks and teaching and classroom management is all geared toward keeping control of large numbers of children and adult style work schedules. It is not at all geared toward learning and such.
I just have to say, thanks! We got up this morning and went nut-hunting in our back yard, but unfortunately, the only nuts we could find were ourselves. BUT, we found an ear of corn that had been animal-carried, and decided to raid the harvested cornfield that backs up to our yard. The kids (7, 5, 3, and even the 18 mos old) had a blast, and went after ears with kernals on them like a treasure hunt. We piled them on the back deck and are still awaiting "animal visitation", but just the collecting was fun and interesting! So thanks for posting, from me and the kids! SG
