I find my childrens taste in music to be very interesting.
They all like thier fathers 80's rock (except dd21)
and they all liked my singing as infant/toddlers (except ds11)
HE used to put his hand over my mouth when I sang.
and if we were listening to the radio he would say
    "turn the stupid music OFF!"
Now he sings, and is a dancer and loves music...all kinds, classical even. (plays the trumpet)
So do your kids have different tastes?
I just read a study on genre tastes and social outcomes...
exclusive hard rock - rap and omnivores (teens who liked all kinds of music) had the worst social outcomes. (from delinquincy to withdrawing behavior)
kids who liked top 40 did the best.
    It was quite interesting.
(music taste was predictive but not causitive of social difficulties)

Yes, my children, dh and I all have different tastes.

my husband and I became best friends in highschool. Both of us were really into heavy metal. He's an awesome musician and has branched off and has this deep appreciation for ALL kinds of musics. Seriously.. ALL kinds. As for me.. well, I still like 80s rock and such. The kids are ALL over the map.

Ems likes a lot of the same music we like. We like Christian music, opera, classical, and music from different plays we have seen. It is funny because Ems loves Sarah Brightmen (sp?) these days and when she talks with her friends about music, they have no idea who she is.LOL
