I have a K and a 2nd and they are trying to understand what the jobs of the above are. they get confused, they thought the pres. makes the laws, i told them no, the congress makes the laws, the pres approves and signs them into law and the courts determine if a law is constitutional, and this in itself is hard to explain. Any good books or websites for the young politicians?
That might be hard for such a young age. You can certainly explain that there are differnt parts of our government. BrainPopJr has some free Election-type lessons this week. There might be something there that can help you.
We got a neat book this year called "The People Pick a President" put out by Scholastic. It's got lots of info in "kid speak". My kids are loving it. We've been reading through it a chapter at a time (chapters are VERY short), and then doing the lapbook craft that kinda corresponds with that chapter (the lapbook is on homeschoolshare.com). It's not based on the book, but it's been an easy fit so far. Not sure if it's in the library or not. I got it with our scholastic order with our co-op for $2 so it's not too expensive. HTH.
Believe it or not, You Tube has the Schoolhouse Rock videos on there. We watched the one about the electoral college last night.
Oh no you mean I have to tell my kids they can go watch a video on UTUBE? AW man, there goes all my fun of complaining aobout how much time they are on it! Man, rats, fooey even!
