They will learn that Santa is play as they get older and it can still be loads of fun. Ansley knows if she ever tells me that their isn't a santa that he will not come to her. So she believes as I still do.
It is all just fun and what you make of it. No different at all then light looking or skating or anything else I do with the kids.

Lorna's got me pegged right- I am cheap!! LOL.

To me, this has to be to each his own. I'm cool with anyone who wants their kids to believe in Santa, it's just not what I want for Jeannie. What I don't appreciate are the ones who look at me like I just landed when I say we don't believe in him.

Sigh..... I wish he was real.....

I'd like to also say that with the exception of one comment, I like how everybody is being civil about each other's beliefs. No coal in our stockings this year!

We do Santa only as a pretend character. I've told dd that some children believe he is real so not to say anything about him being pretend. So I hope she never does. She dosn't have much interest in him anyway.

As far as keeping Christ in Christmas we are doing a advent puzzle at the moment (it's a nativity scene) and reading the Christmas story about every therd day.
We don't do a tree, I have three diffrent natity scenes I put out. The presents will go under one Christmas eve night. The nativity on the side board we have as an empty stable, which Mary and Joseph take a step closer to each day. We have sheperds and sheep down the other end for rearanging. Christmas eve they are put in the stable and baby Jesus Christmas morning.
We go to carols by candle light and church.

Ours will be having service. I would think it would be anti-religious almost to cancel it just because the day lands on a Sunday. I can understand many people not going though because of the day it is. We are trying to work it out with my family so we can go that Sunday morning. How wonderful it would be to go on that day if we can!

Jen, I'm with you. I was absolutely shocked to think they were cancelling at my church...I had never heard of doing that before!!! I assumed that my MIL's church would be having a service, but NO! Even my DH thought it was "strange" to be having a service on Christmas. So I thought maybe it was just me. My parents' are having service, and I'd like to go there, but.... Most of DH's family attend at my MIL's church (because BIL is on staff), and they will probably be opening presents right during the middle of the service. You know how you have to "pick your fights"? Well, I'm not sure I want a big fight over this! My MIL and I have finally come to something more amiable than simply a "truce" after so long, and I'm not sure I want us to go back to where we were.

I don't know what to do this year. Since I have moved out here I am too far away from the masionic synagogue. I need to find a home church.

We are also currently doing an advent wreath and calander. We have service Christmas eve night and then Christmas day.
