What do you do for an earache? I haven't had one in ages. If I remember correctly, my mom used to put warm olive oil on a cotton ball and stick it in my ear.
Any tips to make it feel better? It isn't severe but it is annoying to say the least.

Yeah, I put warm sweet oil in my kids' ear when they have an earache. It usually helps right away. I buy the sweet oil at CVS or Walmart. It's a small bottle.

Warm, moist heat is good. I warm a wet wash cloth in the microwave then wrap it in a dry towel and hold it against the painful ear. Be careful putting anything in the ear--if the eardrum is ruptured, you can cause infection and permanent damage.

I put a drop or two of peroxide in the ear, then the olive oil.

A friend swears by something that honestly never worked well with me. She makes a paste of crushed flax seed and charcoal as hot as the kid can stand, puts it in a Bounty paper towel (none other are strong enough!) and puts it on the ear, tying it in place with a hat that has "ears" attached. She swears it pulls the infection right out.

We use a heated rice pack.
We cradle it behind the ear and lay down on the side that the ear hurts.
It works wonders. Plus I hate putting stuff in my ears or my dd's.

Go to your local health food store and get the candles for ears. You light them, stick them in your ear, not deep, and the heat will pull all that out. It works for ear aches 100% of the time. Just be careful of the fire.

We 've tried these with my dh with no luck, BUT he has weird shaped ear canals. The friend who told us about them, swears by them.

Our house standard for earaches is to warm some salt as hot as the person can stand and then put it in a clean sock tie it shut and lay on it.

Warm olive oil on a cotton bal has always worked for me. Also, since the ears, nose & throat are all connected, if you're congested at all that could be the cause. If that's the case, I would also suggest doing something for the congestion, or the earache will just come back.

I would find out from my dr whether it is an inner ear infection (fluid behind the eardrum) or an outer ear infection. If it is an inner ear infection they will prescribe antibiotics and decongestants to dry out the ear. If it is an out ear infection they would probably prescribe drops for the ear canal. Important to know what kind it is before placing anything in your ear.

I usually do not go to the doctor for an earache. But the other day I blew my nose and my ear popped so loud. It felt FABULOUS! LOL
My head felt as if a warm heat went down the side. Now my ear is clear and feeling great. I guess it was just pressure from when I had a head cold.

    Glad you are better.
My ds was having a hearing loss, with a cold lately and we put some peroxide in his ear and had him blow up balloons. One or the other cleared up his ear.
Here is a good online source for at home helps...
