What does your spouse or significant other do for a living? Reading some of these posts just made me curious about what other people do for a living. My husband is a Buyer for a company that owns catalogs. He buys from vendors, negotiates pricing, makes sure the orders go through and that the catalog has enough of the items in stock. I think that's what his work entails. I might be missing something though. Hubby works M-F from 7:30-4:30 (1 hr. lunch break, so he can come home for lunch).
DH is a shift supervisor (read- BABYSITTER) for about 50 people in his department of a manufacturing company close by. He's been there for 17 years now. He works from 6am-2pm, which is nice that he gets home early enough so we can run errands, or he watches the kids while I go do them. We're early birds anyway, and like getting up early.
My DH is an electrical engineer, designing computer chips. He is in a salery possition so hours vary greatly, usually 40-50 a week, but during deadline times he tends to put in very long hours.
My husband is a graphic designer and has been working freelance for a firm in Houston, of which he will soon be working in the office itself. It's a really flexible job!
My dh is an Area Manager ( 3 stores) for a welding and industrial gas supply company. He is salary also so his hours vary. Usually anywhere from 4:15 am - sometimes 6pm. Depends on if its a area meeting day, if its Friday lots of end of week paperwork or end of month paperwork ( he is home late) and he has a 30+ minute commute.
My hub's in charge of receiving inspections for a company that rebuilds transmissions. Basically, he and his staff check the quality of all the parts that come in and stock them in the warehouse.
My DH provides a specialized form of technological support for attorneys that includes, but is not limited to, managing electronic evidence. He is not an attorney himself (or paralegal). He's been in the field since its beginning, but only seems to say in any given job for 2-3 years at a time. He's currently working for a law firm, managing the department that handles these issues.
Troy and I both work for the local hospital and healthcare system. He is a Report Analyst for the Nurse Online department, and I work in the Outreach Deparment in the Lab. He works days, I work part-time in the early evening.
My DH works for an electrical engineering firm, selling starters for large motors (like the motors that run refineries and water treatment plants... some of the "boxes" that the starter components go in take really big semi trailers to haul out.) It's all inside sales.. the companies call them. He's more of an engineer than a salesman, if that makes sense.
My husband is a civil engineer by day (Mon-Fri 8-5) and a Wal-Mart cashier by night (530-midnight). Hopefully we'll be out of debt soon and he can quit his second job.
My husband is the Program Director for a non-profit organization. His office hours are 9:00-ish to 5:00-ish M-F, but he also has to be at many, many night and weekend events. He's salaried, so the number of hours is not reflected in the paycheck.
My husband own his own mobile auto maintenance business. He basically goes all over Houston and surrounding areas providing basic scheduled preventive maintenance to his customers. Customers range from car rental companies to air conditioning companies to mortuary companies. He has owned this business 13 years and his hours vary greatly. Today he went to work at about 11am and he is done for the day. Sometimes he has to be at a job by 4:30 am and some days he doesn't begin until 2pm.
My husband teaches computers (programming, web page, Word, Computer Applications, etc.) in a public high school. He is also math certified, and has taught that, too, but his love is computers.
My dh works for a local electric power company. He is a line mechanic. Your power goes out, he will fix it. He works 3 different shifts...6am-2, 8am-4, and then 2pm-10pm. But if there is trouble, he will continue to work. And he will get called out at all hours. I appreciate his dedication to his employee. He has been there almost 20 years. He also has gone out of state to help major troubled areas.
As you can see from my signature, my DH is a soldier in the US Army. Specifically, he's an Infantry Officer.
