I just typed up the letter of withdrawal to my son's school and after the holiday party tomorrow we are officially homeschoolers! I registered Home Life Academy this week and got all my curriculum so off we go on this wonderful adventure! My son said tomorrow is going to be the best day ever!
You'll really enjoy yourselves with it! I was so glad when we did it and wish I had did it a long time ago. My kids are so much better off and happier kids.
Congrats! I withdrew my daughter right before Thanksgiving and it has been awesome so far. We are already enjoying it SO much!
Thanks everyone! We had his last day today and I was there for the holiday party since I WAS the room mother. We were packing everything up and his teacher GAVE me all his workbooks...including the $45 math one they were using (I know it's $45 since we were going to have to pay that and enough parents potested so the school bought them for us) She also gave back all the writing pads etc...that were for the whole class. I am excited and will use his old curriculum he's used to along with what i picked out! Very successful last day!
Wow what an awesome way to know you are doing the right thing when you have more than you need now! That is so great! I know your begining days will be so much easier with the old and the new! You can work the new in as you go so that he can adjust easier. so cool!
We withdrew right before Thanksgiving and have never looked back. DD is doing sooooo much better emotionally, socially and academically. I really am enjoying it. It is work, and a new commitment, but we are happier for it.
Congratulations! This may be off topic, but I read in previous posts about schools requiring kids to bring in basic supplies to be shared by everyone. In that particular thread, a poster said that kids were even expected to bring in paper for the copiers. I passed it off as being a really wierd quirk of one school system, but then you mentione getting back supplies. Did you have to bring supplies for the whole class? Is this a common thing? Just curious -- and possibly horrified if it is as I am imagining!
Oh we had to bring it quite alot for the class...a ream of copier paper, 5 writing tablets (she would send home 3 torn out sheets each week for homework) kleenex, wipes, germ-x, and dry erase marker/eraser plus all the supplies that were just for him it was nuts...I couldn't believe all that then again it's halfway through the year and some parents still haven't brought all their kids supplies in
I work at a local retail store and the teachers hand out a list of things they would like to be donated to the class if parents can. They don't make you but if you can they really appreciate it. Basics like pencils, white board markers, kleenex, germ stuff.
