In the past few years, a lot of local organizations have realized that our Homeschool 4-H group is a good group to host things like breakfasts or lunches, because our kids are available during the hours they need, and it doesn't cost as much as catering does. Well we had two big breakfasts that we cooked, served, and cleaned up for this fall, and the money earned was put into our group's account.

This year they decided to adopt a local family, and on Thursday, we went and spent 570.00 to buy the family gifts and groceries. When the cashier (whose eyes were like this  looking at all the stuff) asked what the deal was, I explained that these kids were a homeschool group and had earned money doing various fundraisers. I explained how their hard work had paid for this family to have a good Christmas.

The cashier took off her glasses and wiped the tears from her eyes, and loudly said, "Great job kids! Hey guys, I just want to let you know that this is a 4-H group for homeschoolers, and they all raised enough money to get presents for a family of 5 AND buy them groceries."

People kept going past telling them good job, and the smiles on the kids' faces were priceless. They didnt do it for the glory...the looks on the family's faces when we delivered the gifts were thanks enough for them, but it sure did make them feel good to gt a good reaction from people for once.

    GOOD FOR THEM!!!

(We just this year quit a homeschool 4-H group, so I understand where you're coming from! There was SO MUCH about it I will SO miss, one of them being the very positive attitudes of Community Service. But at the same time, it was SUCH a relief to be out; getting my kids to complete projects, especially when "crunch time" came right before Fair, was too much for me!)

My 12 yr old kept saying, "That was so cool.....their expressions as they saw all the stuff we brought in." It really let them see that although we might not have everything they want, they have more than a lot of people do.

That's really great to hear that! I'm thrilled for the kids that they got to do that and I'm sure got a huge amount of satisfaction in helping another family. How very awesome!
