Lastnight coming home from town we hit a deer. Surprisingly it only smashed the mirror and put a scratch in the window (as we could tell lastnight). The deer though didn't fair so well - it didn't make it. Exactly one year ago my car came back from the shop because some lady backed into me and smashed the same side of the car. This is the second time now this mirror needs to be replaced - ugh. It's a good thing we have good car insurance. Here you need to file a police report so I called in and they want me to come in within two days:eek: what! that's Christmas Eve and Christmas day did I mention we live 30 miles out. I'll call today and see if someone else is more sympathetic. And here we were all smiles because we just had new tires put on for the winter, geesh. My body mechanic is just going to laugh when I come wondering back in.

Like my mom says, "If it isn't one thing, it is another."

    Thankfully you weren't injured.

Actually we find it more comical than anything. It was one of those slow motion things. My dh was bummed that we had the car because if we had the truck he would have taken it home to cut up, lol.

    LOL!!!!:p

This reminds me of my bil. He was in Arizona and hit a huge elk. The elk damaged his car so severely that the paramdics couldn't believe my bil lived. Well, the joke was that he should take the head and hang it on his wall as a momento. He didn't do it but the next morning my brother was driving by and noticed that the elks head was gone.

SOMEBODY ELSE HELPED THEMSELVES TO THE HEAD!!!LOL
They are probably telling everybody that they caught it themselves!LOL

Thankfully you did not get hurt. That is so scary. I am always worried about that and we see it all the time around here too.

Did you get to keep the deer meat? In Ohio, you're allowed to, if you're the one who hit it. Glad it wasn't too much damage; I know they can cause serious problems!

    Sorry that happened! Poor deer!

My ds and I were going over the mountain pass and there was a herd of deer on the highway. He slowed down and all of a suddenly one of the females jumped in front of him. He locked them up and I felt a bump and the deer ran up the mtn. We didnt see any damage but when we got home and started washing his truck we noticed the air dam had popped off. No damage, just popped it back on.

Hopefully they will take the report over the phone and fax it to your ins co.

I hit a deer once. I was 16, driving a mustang and taking a friend home out in the country. It went all up under my car and killed the deer. I could still drive home but the car had to go into the shop for a week or so. There was blood and hair all over the undercarriage. I was totally freaked out.

I messed up two cars by hitting deers in Wisconsin. We got to keep the deer if we wanted it. but we gave it away. DH said the meat wouldn't be worth it with the in pack it would be jelly. So, we let the farmer have it.
I was always told go sue that deer if they don't have insurance those darn little things should carry insurance. LOL

Lee, sorry this happened, but really glad that you are OK. I hope the damage to the car isn't too extensive. The worst part, for me, is being without the car while they fix it.

Hopefully you can laugh about it later.

LOL--my brother did the same thing a couple weeks ago and had wished he had a truck. Instead he walked up to the nearest farmhouse and let them know and the guy went and took care of it. Glad you guys are all ok.

We can keep the deer here but we had the car and it happened about 18 miles from home so we didn't feel like going home and back to get it - it was late.

My driver side mirror broke off and we didn't notice the dents until today. I'm not going to have it fixed until spring. I don't want to lose my car right now.
