Do not know if this goes here. California mulls in banning flat screen tvs http://www.greendaily.com/2009/01/0...nel-tvs/?icid=200100397x1216136004x1201051588
YOu would think that with all the problems that CA is having financially, that they would try to promote consumer spending to increase their tax revenues instead of wasting taxpayer time and money on asinine, poorly written laws like this one and the children's clothes one. Are you kidding me? This is where my taxes go?
I agree, there are some pretty stupid laws out there, I guess they have to think of something to STEAL money from tax payers.
CA bans everything pretty soon they are going to be in the ocean they wouldn't be able to ban a thing. I know my SIL and her family lives there she said it's getting bad. I think they are just bored they have to much free time on there hands so they are making up all these funny laws...
I do not believe this will happen. We lived in LA in the tiniest places I've ever been in (for a family). When we finally got a flat screen, we were SHOCKED at how much space we got back. One of the building management told us that tons of people in the building were switching over for that reason. Also, from what DH & I saw, people in CA are real, true, dyed-in-the-wool technophiles. There's no way they'll give up the flat screen TVs. Besides, when we bought ours, even though we lived in CA, we didn't buy it there. We ordered it from Amazon.
California: Where the need to appear cool by way of enviroMENTALism clashes on a constant basis with the need to appear cool by way of new technological toys. Ahhh the delimas! hahahahah!
I live in Cali and it wouldn't surprise me in the least if this happened. Just like the thermometer that the government wants installed in people's A/C units and other major appliances so the government can shut them off when too much electricity is being used. I heard many people say it wouldn't happen, well it is. No it isn't being forced on the people but people are volunteering because this way they get a set monthly payment instead of coughing up hundreds a month in the hot season. My neighbor got sucked into this. It was 114 outside and she comes over sweating because her A/C was shut off at the peak hour, which happens to be the peak of heat as well.LOL She said it sounded great at first, but she regrets it now. My daughter also did this. Odd as it is, more and more people are doing this in the name of saving power and money, yet to me it is a ploy from the government to control more. The government wants all new structures to have these installed as well. PLEASE! If your car doesn't pass smog and you have gone over your allotted extentions, you either have to replace the car or engine. I know by experience! The list is endless! So yes, I could see this happening and with the electrical problems we have, I am surprised this wasn't done sooner. I know I sound antigovernment in this post. In this case I am. I am not for a lot of gevernment, in some cases it is needed. I just think this is as silly as the thermometers in the units.
If the path to Hell is paved with good intentions... The path must lead directly through California... While I understand the "Theory" behind such measurements, I am completely dismayed at the idocracy that implements these short sighted (Looks good on my election record) laws.
I think it's ridiculous, and I live in CA. I don't own a flat screen t.v. or monitor for our desktop computer. But I'd like to have the choice if I wanted too. I'm tired of CA's laws and regulations on the dumbest things possible just nickle and dime the taxpayers so they can give themselves raises and STILL run our state into the ground. I have a co-woker who's husband works for the state and since he's only been there 16 months he's worried he may loose his job and even if he keeps his job he was told that at some point they may issue I owe you's instead of paychecks.. so these people have to go to their mortgage holder and give them an I owe you too? I don't think so. Besides....I owe you's don't work when we have to pay our taxes!
AH! But they work for the government when they want to give IOUs for our state refunds this tax period. I do not know if this will happen but it looks like we might not get a state tax return this year; at least not until the state has enough money. But we all know they will have to pay back their employees first!
I heard about that. I wonder if they will get away with it or are they going to make cut backs in other areas such as the jet that arnie uses to get back and forth to Sac every day.
It is my understanding that he is going to try to cut back to using the jet only twice a week now. LOL! My sister heard that our registration fees are supposed to go up as well. At least temporarily while Cali tries to get out of debt. I guess we will be paying higher fees for the rest of our lives.
I heard that too, that they were going to try and triple registration. A lot of folks won't be able to afford that.
Especially if they have a new car! Handsome and I were discussing earlier that we might start seeing more and more people driving used cars. For one, they can't afford a car payment in this economy and two, with a new car the registration might skyrocket.
