Ok, so if I make a blog for Garrett to keep a log of his school stuff, can I take videos with my camera (it has a video setting), put them on like youtube (something I have never tried but I should be able to do it) and then put them in our blog? I think I'm going to make a blog and use that as our main portfolio, of course I will have to print lots of things out and make a book for the schools satisfaction, but they will also be provided with the link to the blog as well.
You can on wordpress, so I would assume you could with any blog space. The difficulty of doing so, though, may differ vastly. For wordpress, you have to upload it to a place like youtube then copy the embed code to a place called vodpod then you can post from vodpod to wordpress. At least, that's the only way I've been able to do it on there.
there is, yet I have not figured it out. Maybe Dawninns will chime in she is really good with all the computer stuff. If not pm and ask maybe.
Thanks gals. I think I know how to do it, I know I have taken youtube videos and embedded them in my myspace, it should work the same way.
My girls and I each have a free web page, and we just download our videos straight from the camera onto the computer, then load it from our computer to the web page. I'm not good at it; I always need to get Rachael to help me!
That's exactly it Sommer. You can upload videos directly to Blogger as well though but I've never found it worked as well as just uploading it to Youtube and then copying the embedding code to my blog post.
Yep. You just click upload, browse to find the file and click on it. It does take time however. On my cable internet it can take four or five minutes. You do have to have an account of course but that's simple to do.
I do have an account, I needed it to view videos or something some time back, I'll have to put it to use. We have DSL, so it shouldn't take too long, although when I downloaded the new virus protection thing it said I needed some patch but I couldn't figure out how to get it to work and the computer works quite slow these days... so who knows.
Sommer, I have two friends who recently started blogs for their kids. It's an excellent way to practice written communication skills, grammar, spelling, etc. Great idea for the reluctant student!
I sometimes think I want to start a blog for my family to see what we are doing, but then I chicken out. I am sooooooooooo ignorant when it comes to computers.
Blogger is super easy. I kind of messed around with it and got things figured out. It can be as simple as picking a generic layout and then clicking post new topic whenever you want to post or as complicated as designing your own banner, adding widgets, etc. I never could figure out how to embed a You Tube video, but it didn't matter too much to me anyway so I didn't try very hard. My son does a blog under my email address so I can easily moderate the comments left and what he writes. The rules for him are very simple: no name, no location, no age, nothing personal AT ALL. It is not an assignment for him so it's fun and I love that he gets extra practice with writing.
I am confused. Please forgive me.LOL If I started a blog, is everything I need already online? Would I be able to set up a private blog that only family and friends can access? What are the best places to set up a blog? What does it mean to blog under an email address?
Patty, I'm pretty much a novice blogger, but I use blogspot.com for stuff, but really I don't use it much at all. I want to make one for Garrett to use for school using our school email address (which I never use much either..lol).
Yes, everything you need would be there, and you can make it reasonably private--- if not entirely so. A lot of how easy the site is to use and how private you can make it depends on what blog you use. Blogger, blogspot, and wordpress are some of the bigger ones. I use wordpress, but it can be a bit unwieldy. Frankly, I prefer doing a website to using that silly blog! LOL But, overall, it's not hard and the space is free unless you choose a bunch of upgrades.
The reason for doing it "under the email" is that you need an email address to start a blog. Go here: https://www.blogger.com/start They have a tutorial, a tour, etc. But when you sign up, all the basics are step by step set up and super easy. If you want the kids to "blog" and have complete privacy but be able to invite family and friends to see it, try www.pbwiki.com It's not a blog, but it is fun. I have my kids keep a thankful journal on a page in our pbwiki acct. and I also have it set up that no one can view it unless I invite them.
Sommer, Blogging is great! I think you will really enjoy it; I am loving the ease of keeping track of our activities!
Thanks Stacey. I have 2 blogs one is supposed to be personal, but I never type there, and I just started one to keep track of my crafting as part of my New Year's resolution. Sadly I haven't been there since New Years Day..lol. But I have more to post now so I will be going there later today.
