My 4th grade daughter just learned her upper times tables after showing her the pictures only one time from Times Tales. I couldn't believe it! We're still working on trying to memorize the lower times facts the traditional way and it's been difficult. Now I see she is a visual learner. I sometimes think she is slightly dyslexic, she gets things mixed up (like the word before and after) and her reading, writing, and spelling is not good. I can see she 's smart though and if I could teach her with this type of method, I think she would just take off. Anyone know other good curriculum or methods for teaching? I'm especially interested in spelling, she really needs help with that.
try computer games ... there are a lot of fun ones out there? It helped my dd get hers down, mathblasters is one... Also to help with her spelling and writing have her type the words out, if she is slightly dislexic I can assure you this will help! I have improved my spelling 99 % through typing through the years! I used to reverse lots of letters or transpose them? So now I type and my brain thinks the order of the letters, if I accidently reverse them I notice it now too! Kinda neat!
We loved Times Tales also  We are using All About Spelling. It isn't as fun as the TT were, but if you follow the lesson plans the kids will be using tiles as well as writing the words so they do get visual, auditory and tactile practice. It is working well for us. My twins are in 4th grade also Good Luck
i have heard great things about the math-U-see programs. its one i am planning on getting when my kids are a little older.
We use All About Spelling also. I've been eyeballing Times Tales too but haven't done it yet. You ladies are motivating me more and more. My DD8 can multiple but you can see that most of the time, she's adding it up in her head....just can't seem to "memorize" them quite yet. She has some of them down. She also has a processing deficit and that becomes more apparent with quick recall facts.
My visual-spatial learner is a bit older, but you may wish to keep Vocabulary Cartoons in mind. I heard Dianne Craft at my homeschool convention and you may find her information helpful. HTH! Cyrena
Oh yes, we have that too - we haven't used it consistently but the girls get a kick out of it and they remember a lot of it.
