I overheard my husband ask my soon to be six year old if he liked homeschooling. My ds said "no, I don't know." What the heck. First of all, I'm a little upset that my husband asked that question. I have asked that he not do that because my ds's really don't have a choice right now. But my ds has often told me that he likes homeschooling. What' going on?

Oh sweetie, we all have those moments, even if he was in a ps he would more then likely answer the question the same way if his dad would of ask him.
There aren't to many children that like school to begin with, rather you homeschool, private or ps.
It's just something he is going through.
You are doing a wonderful job with him and he will thank you some day.

I agree with Kris. Ask my kids that question and you'll get a different answer every single time.

I'll admit: it hurts my feelings when they say they don't like it. It's hard not to take that as a personal rejection initially because we moms put SO much of ourselves into homeschooling.

But they'd say the same thing about school (mine did when they were in school). They're young and immature and still believe the grass is greener on the other side of the fence. So while it feels personal for about a second, I blow it off.

I know we're doing what's best for them, and someday, they'll realize it too. Until then, I'm expecting to hear more of the same!

I agree with what has been shared.

Sometimes Ems says she loves school. Other times, usually when she wants to go off and play with her friend, then she doesn't like it. LOL

If she is asked if she wants to go to public school, she faithfully says, "No way!"

If you asked my 8 and 6 year olds if they like brushing their teeth they would say NO, if you asked them if they like wearing their seatbelt, they would say NO...

But what is disturbing is , is your DH tryign to undercut you by confusing the child?

Mine has asked our DD the same thing and it does drive me nuts. She always gives me a look before answering. Sometimes she says yes she likes it and other times it's maybe. Hubby just wants the best for his kiddos. I must be doing something right because I still have all three at home with me.

I really don't think he was undercutting her at all, I feel he was just talking to the child and asking question. I know my dh always has the girls how school went and if they liked it almost everyday. He use do the same thing in ps I just think it's a way they talk with the children to make talk with them. They more then likely don't know what they are saying or doing to the child.

Dont worry about it. They will go through years of liking and not liking, right now in our area homeschooling is the BOMB! They all want to be homeschooled like my kids now!
So cool ... but it was not always that way and homeschooling inour home has not always been cool either.
The kids go through stages just like any othe rkid,
if they went out they would have the same thoughts, I hate school, Ilove school, depending on what they are doing and what is going on.. so don't worry be happy!

    Agreeing with wise pp's. ;-)

The assumption sometimes is that if they don't like homeschooling then they MUST like psing (or school outside of the home).

But that's not really a fair conclusion or an accurate one either. My son may well tell you that he finds math boring. . .but then if you were to ask 'would you rather be in school' you'd get a resounding no. Even if he did say he'd rather be in school--he doesn't make up the rules. ;-)
