Hi folks, well, here's our situation. I am not that great at explaining math to our kids, and was wondering if there is any curriculum that uses DVDs or something to explain each lesson for them? Next year we'll have a 6th grader, 2nd grader, and kindergartener. We have been using lifepacs and horizons this year.
    Thanks--

Math U See has a dvd that comes with the program that you can use to either teach yourself before you teach your child or many people just let the child watch the dvd.

Abeka! The videos are of actual classes with actual students asking questions after the teacher explains the lesson. My boys felt the videos covered all of the questions. A+

Using Saxon math books, there are DIVE DVDs and now Saxon has their own also. There are several DVD type for high school math as well.

With Abeka, you have to order the whole curriculum, not just one subject, right? Otherwise I would consider them.

If our oldest, the one who will be in 6th grade next year, hasn't learned how to do math with Math-u-see, would you recommend switching at this point? Would he have to relearn everything? I have been thinking about math-u-see for the younger 2, but I'm not sure yet.

    Is Saxon really expensive?

    Thanks-

Teaching Textbooks has a program for 6th grade. It's expensive, and on CDs. My daughter uses it for her upper level math VERY successfully. If you do a search on here, you will find several threads that discuss Teaching Textbooks.

I just checked out the teaching textbooks and they look really good! I think we might try that. I'll have to show it to our oldest and see what he thinks. Thanks so much for all your replies!

ABEKA: No! You can only order one subject if you desire, you don't have to buy the entire curriculum.

It doesn't matter if you child learned with Math U See or not you can switch if you want to. Just find the level that would be most appropriate. We really like MUS here because it's so much fun and the boys actually remember what they are learning.
